LUCY LEDAMUN B. 1894 CAMBERWELL / NEWINGTON

Sorry for being away everyone, been really busy studying so haven't had much time to dedicate to RC and genealogy in general I'm afraid. :(

Anyway, following a message that I received through Genes Reunited, I would like to help an 80 year old woman find links to her family. It seems that there could be a possible connection with her to my own family, but I don't want to be too optimistic until I see some concrete evidence - however, if there is anything I could tell her about her roots I would like to do so. She was a WW2 evacuee and became seperated from her family. She didn't see her parents again after the war, so if there's anyway we can give her some roots now that'd be great.

Anyway, said lady was obviously born in the 30s near the Angel in Islington, London. Her parents' names were Lucy Ledamun (possible connection to myself) and Frank Jackson. Using the FreeBMD I have found out the following information:

Lucy Ledamun birth registered March 1894 in Clapham, Surrey

March 1919 marries Jackson in Camberwell.

Now for the possible connection with my family: a cousin of mine has done extensive research into this branch of the family, and collectively we have managed to branch upward and outwards from 1700s in England to the present day as far as Canada. We have been fortunate enough to find other relatives (including each other, our branches of the family fell out of contact before I was born!)....Anyway, many of the names in the family of this lady recur in this branch of the family tree - but sadly not the right branch as the only Lucy Ledamun before this Lucy Ledamun married someone by the surname Florance!

The fact that Lucy Ledamun married Frank Jackson in Camberwell is also interesting as my grandmother's cousins were living in Camberwell at this time:
Frederick George Ledamun (b.1858) and his wife Eliza (nee Scutt, b.1855). They had at least 5 children, one of whom died at a young age. 70 Henshaw St in 1881 (Newington), 143 Great Dover Street in 1901 (Newington) between 1891-1901. Camberwell at this time came under Newington.

As they are so close in proximity and a lot of this part of my family were part of this wave of urban migration, many settling in this area, I would like to try and find any census records for Lucy in the 1901 census.

I haven't been very lucky this far and could really appreciate some help!

Thanks in advance guys!

The Common Room / Illegible occupations
« on: Tuesday 14 August 07 03:38 BST (UK)  »
I'm currently trying to compile databases of what each member of my family (that I have discovered) did as an occupation for each census year (if there's an occupation listed).

I went to the 1901 census' as I was missing more information from the 1841, so I'm going to work backwards instead... My great great aunt's and uncle's occupations are however illegible to me in this census record. They were 16 and 15 respectively, andtheir younger brother was a van guard groom.

If anyone could shed any light on them I would be grateful.
The father of the family was a cab driver groom and the mother a shirt machinist.

I can read the asst. and strainer parts, just not the rest!

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / COMPLETED 1841 Look Up Please MYNN
« on: Tuesday 14 August 07 03:19 BST (UK)  »
Having real trouble finding my gg grandfather and his wife on the 1841 census (yes, my gg grandfather!) and I was wondering if someone could help me locate them.

My great grandfather was christened in 1844 in Bermondsey and later in life had businesses in London so I'm guessing that they would be there.

His father was William Mynn born in Kent, circa 1792 and his mother was Susannah Heath, b. circa 1804 in Hampshire.

William Mynn died in 1864, but I can't find him in any census for some reason.

My great grandfather was a Hops and Commission agent so I'm guessing his father was involved in the hops business too as I know other members of the family (further up the tree) certainly were.

Any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks.
Scott

Travelling People / "Mrs. Loveridge" Peg Maker, Somerset / Wiltshire
« on: Monday 13 August 07 21:59 BST (UK)  »
This is probably a long shot, but I thought it would be worth asking.

My father ran away from home when he was a young boy in the early 50s and was looked after by "gypsies". One particular woman who was a real guardian angel to him was a woman by the name of Mrs. Loveridge. He doesn't know all that much about her, but she was a peg maker and looked after him a lot as a boy.

She travelled in a horse and caravan group in the Wiltshire/Somerset area- Stokes St. Gregory in particular.

They had brown/red caravans and kept hazel coloured horses :)

I know this is a long shot, but it would be great if this sparks a memory for somebody.

:)
All the best,
Scott

The Common Room / Making Carbon Copies
« on: Monday 13 August 07 19:47 BST (UK)  »
I've only been at this whole genealogy thing for a year or so now, so I'm fairly new and have been lucky enough not to encounter too many disasters with my computer or paper work in the mean time.

I was just wondering if fellow rootschatters think it is worth making a "carbon copy" of all information that I have on my computer just in case.

I was thinking about it the other day in case I lost any information what detrament I would be in, but then again I think I have loads of odds and ends of paper as it is!

Family Bibles / The Tradition of Keeping a Family Bible
« on: Sunday 12 August 07 22:01 BST (UK)  »
Does anybody know of the history to keeping a family bible with genealogical information in? I'd never heard of that prior to joining RC.

You've all done such great jobs for me on other photos in the past I was wondering if you could give my father a little cosmetic work in this one.

The scan comes from one of those tiny 2" photos. It was taken in Somerset and I believe he was involved in some kind of RAF thing for young people at the time.

I think that's what this says, although if anyone could give me their opinion, I'd be grateful.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Marriage Look Ups - EMERY
« on: Sunday 12 August 07 05:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

Something's finally clicked and I'm opening up a whole new branch of my family tree!

However, I'm having a little trouble finding a couple of marriage records and I was wondering if anyone would be prepared to help me.

I am looking for marriages between:
RICHARD EMERY b. abt 1824
Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, England
to
SOPHIA b.abt 1830
Soho, Middlesex, England

Their first child (as far as I know) Hephzibah, was born in 1855.

They spent their whole married life in Soho, St. Giles, Middlesex/London.

RICHARD GEORGE EMERY b.1857
Soho, Middlesex, England
to
JANE b.abt 1862
St Giles, London, England

Again, they were resident in St. Giles most of their lives. Their first born (as far as I know), Anne Rose Emery was born in 1885 in St Giles.
