Australia Lookups completed / Melbourne, Victoria birth? Completed
« on: Tuesday 19 February 13 02:54 GMT (UK)  »
I have discovered a relative that appears on the 1911 England Census, George Ernest Aldridge, born abt 1904, Melbourne, to Mother, Mildred Mary ALDRIDGE & unknown. He also has a sister on the same census, Muriel Mary Aldridge, b. abt 1906, Adelaide, SA. Mildred has married to a George Edwin SWAIN, b. 1866, Luton, Bedfordshire, England & these children are listed as his step children. Interestingly, there is another daughter, Gwendoline May Aldridge, b. 1902 Battle, Sussex, England.

Anyone shed any light on these Aussie kids?

Regards,

Mike.

The Common Room / Tracing a relative! Thomas William Wright, b. 5 Jul 1858, Kendal
« on: Wednesday 30 January 13 06:00 GMT (UK)  »
Help  :D I need some assistance in tracing a relative on England census' or marriage & death. His name is Thomas William Wright, b. 5 Jul 1858, Kendal, Westmorland. Son of Cicely Wright (nee Jopson), b. 1833, Longton, Staffordshire & Charles Wright, d. 8 Jan 1858, Maldon, Victoria, Australia. Cicely left Australia after Charles Wright's death bound for England and was pregnant with Thomas.

Now Thomas first appears on 1861 England census aged 2, where his mother has remarried to James Ferguson, b. 1818, Kendal, Westmorland. Class: RG 9; Piece: 3970; Folio: 55; Page: 31.

I find him next on 1871 Wales census as Thomas W.R.Ferguson in Leeswood, Flintshire, Wales, along with his step siblings.  Class: RG10; Piece: 5649; Folio: 8; Page: 8.

That's when I loose track of him...there are some possibilities but not 100% accurate.

Any assistance would be great!

She supposedly married a Walter Ward in Dunedin in 1876 & then the next record I have for her is her 2nd marriage to James Arthur Schott on 25 Sep 1879, Hobart, Tas. She died on 1 May 1936, Hobart but I cannot find her birthplace anywhere?

Australia Lookups completed / Caroline ARMSTRONG (nee JUBB) Completed
« on: Sunday 08 May 11 09:35 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the death of Caroline Armstrong (nee Jubb) Born in Launceston on 13 Apr 1855, she married James Armstrong on 30 Mar 1878, Carlton, Vic. James died on 5 Oct 1926, East St Kilda, Vic. On his death certificate it states his marriage to her but not whether she's alive or dead. I've been through all the VIC indexes & no joy & looked at Ancestry's Australian Census' & deaths, to no avail. They had 4 children, all in Victoria: Ada Elizabeth, Henry James, Henry John & Gertrude May Armstrong.

Any help would be appreciated.

Australia / Help re: Ancestor's origins & Immigration
« on: Tuesday 01 March 11 11:26 GMT (UK)  »
I recently have been researching my 2 x Great Grandmother, Ellen Dunn (born 10 May 1856, Hobart, Tas & d. 9 Jul 1891, Hobart, unmarried.) Curiously, she was the Housekeeper for a Robert Alexander Jeffrey (born 1828, Hobart & d. 6 Dec 1902, Hobart.)

Robert was married with 9 children but had a further 5 children with Ellen & also another child with his other Housekeeper, a married woman called Mary Ann Parsonage (Nee Walford), all whilst he was still a married man.

Ellen Dunn's parent's were John Dunn & Ann McDonald & they married in 1852, Hobart & had 10 children. John Dunn, died aged 66 in 1892, Hobart & Ann died, aged 70 in 1905, Hobart.

From various resources, I have found out that John Dunn was born about 1826 in England & as yet have no idea how or when he came to Tasmania & where he lived in England & I know that Ann McDonlad was born about 1834 in Ireland & also no idea how & when etc she came to Tasmania.

They both could have been convicts or free settlers & Ann being younger, may have come with parents. Any suggestions of resources on sorting out John Dunn & Ann McDonlad's origins & immigration would be appreciated.
