The Lighter Side / Ancestor throwing down a challenge?
« on: Friday 27 January 17 09:46 GMT (UK)  »
A prominent Ancestor who died 1957 was often in the local paper.

One article has him saying he could trace his ancestors ten generations on his mothers side.

Best I can manage is four back from him.

The Common Room / My GG father Haigh Howard challenging me from the past...
« on: Friday 13 July 12 10:33 BST (UK)  »
Had a trip back to England and found this article from the Holmfirth express on my GG Father Haigh Howard 1869-1957. he died a few years before my birth but was well known locally - Councillor etc.

the lines from the article which challenge ?

"A member of a well-known local family, Mr howard could trace his ancestry back to the sixteenth century"

Wow - the best I could do with patchy local PRs is early eighteenth century

Im not really looking for help on the ancestry (you can if you want though  ;D) but has anyone uncovered a challenge like that ?

Last online in 2010.

he had an excellent site about Holmfirth during the great war which is now off air because the subscription appears not to have been paid

I was just wondering because he has/had excellent material which is a shame to lose

Australia / Quick tip for australian base UK researchers with Ancestry subscription
« on: Tuesday 02 August 11 07:57 BST (UK)  »
There is now a category on UK site called UK premium which has lots of extra PR documents - this is not included in the Australian UK heritage subscription

I went monthly because the exchange rate is changing by the month.

My ancestry.com.au UK heritage montly charge A$21.95
My Ancestry.co.uk UK premium subscription $A17.74 and dropping

Even an annual .au based Uk heritage subscription is A$215 annually (A$18 monthly)

I had to actually cancel the .au one and may have paid a month too much - which is a trap
When the au one expires I will probably lose access to some australian resources - which isnt a big thing for me

HUDDERSFIELD ARCHAEOLOGICAL And TOPOGRAPHICAL ASSOCIATION.

George Lloyd, of Thurstanland, explained the objects of the Society as being, (I.) To preserve and illustrate the ancient monuments, history, and customs of our ancestors; (II.) To collate and transcribe ancient charters, deeds, and documents, with the ulterior view of employing them as material for a compilation of the history and topography of the locality, viz. the four extensive and important parishes of Almondbury, Huddersfield, Kirkburton, and Kirkheaton, comprising the Deanery of Huddersfield; but not to exclude any matters of a kindred character which the executive of the Association shall deem necessary or interesting.

The Lighter Side / Ancestors who were genealogists ?
« on: Thursday 23 December 10 02:55 GMT (UK)  »
Just intererted generally about RC-ers experiences finding out that ancestors were genealogists themselves.

Particularly if you didnt know prior to taking it up yourself - although interested in the subject generally

Census and Resource Discussion / ancestry labs -- person view
« on: Wednesday 27 October 10 22:32 BST (UK)  »
you can have an advance look here

http://www.ancestry.com/labs

Dont panic its an optional view rather than an update people don't want.

It has possibilities but in some cases can confuse the issue more than help it.

There is a feedback button in there though
