Tried all the usual places with no success.

Thanks

What would be the civil parish for Killimore?

Thanks

Leitrim / Duggan/Dougan
« on: Sunday 03 August 08 16:37 BST (UK)  »
I have been searching for the Duggan/Dougan family for some time now, but have got no further in finding out whereabouts in Co Leitrim they are from.
The info I have is James Duggan who married Alice Cumiskey/McCumisky in the county around 1840. They had at least 2 children - Patrick and Bridget. Patrick married in Scotland in 1868, but is not found in the 1861 census, so probably left Ireland 1861-1868.
In the 1871 census, Bridget and her mother Alice are living with Patrick and his family in Scotland. I think Alice's parents names were Charles McComisky and her mother's maiden name may have been McParlane.

Any help gratefully received.

Monaghan / McGovern and Berry in Killanny
« on: Sunday 06 April 08 09:30 BST (UK)  »
HI - I have been stuck looking for this family for some years.........

Anyway, I am going over to Dublin soon and will be looking at the RC parish records to help throw some light on this family.

William McGovern married Alice Berry in Killanny, Co Monaghan in 1842. This info is from a child's birth certicate in Scotland.
The same source lists Alice's birthplace as Killanny in 1825. Her parents names are James Berry and Margaret Burk.

I think I need to look at the parish records for Carrickmacross - but I have also seen some references to this parish also being in County Louth - so advice on this would be welcome.

William McGovern is more of a puzzle. He was born in 1823 in France, where his father was a serving soldier. William may also have a sister Mary, born in France also in 1816.
William's father's name was Patrick McGovern, married to Elizabeth Dolan. I have looked at a lot of disharge papers from the National Archives in Kew - but cannot find any references to Patrick, or any record anywhere of William's birth - so any ideas welcome there too!

Thanks,

Marie

Down / Brooks and Munn families
« on: Friday 21 March 08 15:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hope someone can help with this one!

I have been researching for some years now and have not got very far with the Munn and Brooks families.

All I know is:
Deborah Brooks, daughter of John Brooks and Isabel King was born in County Down around 1800. The info about County Down being her place of birth is from Poor Relief applications in Scotland.
She married John Munn around 1820. John is also from Ireland, but not sure where. The family were in Scotland from around 1825. They were Catholic.

Any suggestions about where to look for more info gratefully received.

Thanks.

Armagh / Brick Wall - Tomney family
« on: Sunday 24 February 08 19:22 GMT (UK)  »
I have spent a small fortune on both Irish and Scottish websites trying to find out where and when Michael Tomney died. I have had research done via Armagh Ancestry and have used the online info on Irish Family History Foundation.

Here's what I know so far:
Michael Tomney (or Tomeny/Tomany/McAtamney) was born around 1830, possibly in Clonfeacle parish. His parents names - not yet confirmed are Michael and Anne (or Betty).
He married Helen McSorley in 1851 in Armagh, and they had at least 2 children born in Tynan parish, before moving to Scotland. They lived in Scotland until at least 1861, and returned to Ireland - possibly Mullinary in Armagh, where another child was born in March 1863. Wife Helen was listed as widowed in the Scottish 1871 census - where she was now living with the children and she remarried in Scotland in 1872.
So, Michael died somewhere between 1862 and 1871 - no record on any death in Scotland, and no record in Ireland after 1864.

Any suggestions where I can look further?

Thanks,

MArie

Roscommon / Lavagh townland
« on: Saturday 16 February 08 14:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - I am hoping to revisit Ireland later this year to do some more research on Thomas Helford (Hilford/Helfort) who married Bridget Feehilly (Fehilly/Feeley) in Strokestown in 1865. They had at least 3 children in Ireland and lived in Lavagh in the parish of Kilglass. If anyone has any further information on this family, please get in touch.

Thank you.
