« on: Wednesday 17 May 17 11:58 BST (UK)  »
I have a boxed set of London 1861 census which I have had since I ran Windows XP. Now I am on 10 I find it is not compatible. S & N have been unable to help. I find it difficult to believe that I have 20 discs that are unusable. Any advice to correct this would be much appreciated.

Kent / Stork Puzzle
« on: Thursday 01 January 09 10:58 GMT (UK)  »
::)My father left a diary in which he described training on an old sailing brig, the Stork, anchored off  Gravesend in 1918.  The only record of a ship of this name is a Stork which was moored at Hammersmith from 1913 until 1948.  Has anyone knowledge of the Gravesend Stork and if so are there any records?

Somerset / Axbridge Address Interpretation
« on: Thursday 31 January 08 16:42 GMT (UK)  »
In the 1841 census the address of my gt. gt. gt. grandfather, William Hill is given as West Street without the Borough.  Is anyone familiar with this town who can say if this still exists, and whether "without the Borough" meant that it was outside the town boundary, or is there some other meaning.
 Thank you.   :o :o Davpri

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / John Price 1851 census
« on: Wednesday 26 December 07 17:01 GMT (UK)  »
1861 census shows John Price, Police Constable, living in Plumstead with his wife Sarah and son John (age not clear).  1851 census shows John Price as Police Constable at Police Station in Blackheath Road, Greenwich together with other other policemen.  I cannot find his wife or son.  I am anxious to know if the son was born c.1850 in Newington.  If so he is the link I am looking for.  Any help that can be given would be most welcome.  Thank you.

John Charles Price (no known birth certificate) living in Mercury Road, Ealing, age 31 yrs., is recorded in 1881 census as born in Newington.  Marriage certificate gives father as John James Price.  Nearest match is John Price recorded in 1851 census living in St. George the Martyr parish, age 2, born in Southwark, father James Price.  1861 census shows him living in Lambeth parish, age 10, born in Southwark - no father shown.
Any tips as to how I can confirm that these John Prices are one and the same, would be most welcome.

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / John Charles Price
« on: Tuesday 23 October 07 19:50 BST (UK)  »
My great grandfather was John Charles Price.   1901 and 1881 censuses show he was born in Newington c.1850.  Birth does not appear to have been registered.  Marriage certificate shows father as John James Price.  1851 and 1861 censuses have a John Price born in Southwark also c.1850.  1851 census shows father as James Price.  Can anyone help me in confirming that these are the same people?
