Anyone got links to this family?

My great grandfather Brian was born there in 1860.

He ended off living in England, working in the coalmines.

Let me know if your ancestors share the same surname, or if you have any info about Castlecomer.

Best wishes,
Jill

Hello!

Iīm looking for info on Solomon Thompson.  He was born around 1865, but I donīt know where.  He married my grandma on 10th January 1918 in Kingīs Norton register office.  His job was assistant surperintendent of an insurance company, and his address on the marriage certificate is 93 Alexandra Rd., Edgbaston.  His father was named Samuel, and was a retired coalminer.

I would like to find out some info about the family of my granīs first husband, so please let me know if you can help.

I know he had two sons, but I donīt know their names.

Best wishes,

Hello!

Does anyone know of any records kept of workers at this mill in around 1850?

My great great grandfather Edwin Sykes may have worked there as a billy piecer at this time aged about 12.

Best wishes,

Hello!

my great uncle John William Cunningham was born in 1892 in Houghton le Spring, County Durham.  He joined the DLI on 6th August 1914, and his reg. no was 8676.

How could I find out which battalion he was attached to?  does anyone know?

Also, although he survived the war, he said that he was wounded twice in the head in France - how could I find more details about his injuries?  Are medical records kept anywhere?

Iīm very grateful for your help.  He "dined out" rather a lot on the tale of how he lay wounded on the battlefield for a day or two before his life was saved by an officer who gave him a tot of whisky, so I would love to find out it this was true, or a slight exaggeration.

Many thanks once again.

Hello!

I found an entry for Edgar Sykes, service no. 2746 on the medal roll, and there are entries for him under all three medals - Victory, British and Star.

Can anyone tell me what these medals were for?

He died in 1915, so I donīt know why he would have been awarded the Victory medal.

Grateful for any info.

Hello!

Is your surname one of the above mentioned, and do you live in the Birmingham area?

If so, it may be of interest to you to look at the Oxfordshire board, as there are a number of us with ancestors of those surnames who lived in the Birmingham area in the 19th century.

Best wishes,

Hello!

My ancestors, William and Nancy Sykes, lived at Dry Mill from at least 1841 to 1861.

What was Dry Mill - was it a street?  Or was it the name of a mill in Slaithwaite?

Grateful for any info.

Best wishes,

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Marriage in Golcar or Slaithwaite
« on: Friday 04 July 08 21:40 BST (UK)  »
Hello!

Iīm looking for the marriage of William Sykes to his wife Nancy.

They were both born around 1780, William in Slaithwaite, and Nancy in Golcar.  I assume they would have married around the beginning of the 1800s.

I would love to find out Nancyīs maiden name.

I know the Sykes were a huge family, but can anybody help?

His profession was a tailor.

Thanks in advance.
