For the last year or more I've been trying to find a connection between my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather Thomas Heritage and another Thomas Heritage who appears on a persons tree I ran into over a year ago.  I don't know when or where my Thomas was born or if he had any siblings.  I do know that he married a Maria Adams in 1806 but that's about it.

My friend with the Heritages on his tree has the following information:

Thomas Heritage - Bapt. Sep 1779, Fillongley, Warwick, England
John Heritage - Bapt. Jun 1785, Fillongley, Warwick, England
Mary Heritage - Bapt. Sep 1789, Fillongley, Warwick, England
Samuel Heritage - Bapt. Apr 1792, Fillongley, Warwick, England

We think that his Thomas Heritage and mine are the same person.  The reason we think this is that his Mary Heritage was married in the same church a couple of year after my Thomas Heritage was married.  We have copies from the Pallot's marriage index.  They we both married at St. Andrews, Holborn.  My Thomas married a Maria Adams in 1806.  His Mary was married in the same church a few years later.

Sorry for the length of this.  So, that's my problem.  I've been trying to prove or disprove that these two Thomas Heritages are the same person.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can do this?  I'd appreciate any help I can get.  I think I've hit a brick wall on this one.

I am looking for any information concerning a Sarah Cunningham.  On November 4, 1860 she married William Heritage, a direct relative of mine.  I know that she was born in the last quarter of 1841 in the Holborn area.  I know that on the 1881 census it says that she was born in the Clerkenwell area, which I understand is the same as Holborn depending on the year.  What I am hoping is that someone might be able to find the make up of Sarah's family in the 1851 census.  Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

I've just received a marriage certificate confirming a marriage of one of my ancestors.  I was hoping someone would do a search of the 1891 and 1901 census for me to confirm the makeup of the family.  Here are the details.  My ancestor, Susannah Ellen Heritage (born 1844 in Clerkenwell) married a Richard Hannant Bacon (born c1850 in Billington, Norfolk) on 09/06/1878 at St. Georges, Middlesex.  On the 1881 census, they live at 209 Southwark Bridge Rd, Southwark.  As I said, can someone please have a look at the 1891 and 1901 census to see if they had any children?

Armed Forces / Stupid Question
« on: Wednesday 15 March 06 23:45 GMT (UK)  »
I have what is probably a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway.  I had a look on the National Archives site looking for relatives who might have served in the Royal Navy.  Anyway, I think I may have found one, but I can't be sure.  The name and place of birth is right, but the date associated with the record says, 01 Sept 1898.  Now here's my stupid question.  Is this the person's birth date or the date he entered the service?

Occupation Interests / Publican
« on: Monday 13 March 06 22:02 GMT (UK)  »
From what information I have been able to gather, my Grandfather Thomas Heritage was a Publican.  Now it took me a while to figure out that meant he owned and ran a pub.  Specifically, and I found this out later, he ran the Devonshire Arms pub at 49 Devonshire Street in Mile End.  Does anyone out there know if there are any online records listing pubs and maybe a picture site?  I know that the pub existed into the late 1930's when Devonshire Street became a part of Bancroft Road.  Bancroft Road still exists, but sometime in the 1960s or 1970s much of the area where my Grandfather's pub was located was redeveloped into new flats.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Armed Forces / The Boer War
« on: Monday 13 March 06 15:53 GMT (UK)  »
I just found out recently that my Grandfather apparently volunteered and fought in the Boer War.  Now, my understanding is that there were two Boer Wars.  One from December 1880 to March 1881 and one from October 1899 to May 1902.  Now I suspect that if he did fight in one of them it would be in the second one.  My question is, are there any online records out there on the internet where I could go and possibly confirm whether he was involved in this war?  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I found the following information for the Berkshire family on the 1881 census.  I was hoping that somone might be able to find the family on the 1891 and 1901 census and relay the information.  On the 1881 census the family lived at 5 Westlake Rd, Rotherhithe, London, England.

The address is shown as 23 Noel St, St James, London, England

Could someone please have a look on the 1891 census and give me an idea what the family looks like then?

I have a relative Susannah Ellen Bissmire who married a William John Devereux around 1891.  Susannah was born in 1862 in the Clerkenwell area and William around 1860.  I was hoping someone might be able to do a lookup in the 1901 census for this family and see if they had any children.  Thanks in advance!!!
