Northumberland / Undersea Cable from Newbiggen to Sondervig, Denmark, in 1868.
« on: Wednesday 21 March 07 10:58 GMT (UK)  »
William Tate, was master of a ship, SS  Archimedes, which laid a cable from Newbiggen in Northumberland, to Sondervig, Denmark, in 1868.
William was one of a family of 11 children, one of whom was a daughter, and
the other nine out of 10 boys all became master mariners.  I cannot find a newspaper account of the project.
I think it might have created enough of a stir to get into the newspaper, because there was, after all, a newspaper article about the nine master mariner brothers!).  A newspaper article is such a good confirmation, isn't it?
Any information on this undersea cable from Newbiggen to Sondervig, Denmark, in 1868 would be most welcomely received. Thank you, Bob h

Northumberland / Isabella Hall, Wooler, Northumberland
« on: Saturday 10 February 07 11:04 GMT (UK)  »
Isabella Hall of Wooler in Northumberland married John Lee about 1899 at Wooler.  I don't have any more of the Halls of Wooler.
John Lee (about 1885) born Wooler,
Isabella Lee (born Kirknewton) and
John W. Lee (born 1899) born Wooler. (Isabellas husband). (I assume 'W' is for William, a William at Berwick-on-the-Tweed, going back)
AGAIN family names: Alice, John, Isabella, John.
Any information on any of these family members would be most welcome.bobh

Devon / William Henry Packer c1864, Devon
« on: Thursday 08 February 07 12:07 GMT (UK)  »
Help wanted please from all Packer Family Tree researchers in Devon. William Henry Packer was born in Devon on the 23rd of January 1864.
A recent copy of his birth certificate shows him born in Cheriton Fitzpaine in Devon but on later Census’s it is shown he was born in Teignmouth in Devon. All the other details about him and his family match each other so the question is, did the Devon Registrars Office get the place of birth wrong when they issued the copy of the original birth certificate. Any help would be greatly appreciated please.
