Armagh / Armagh Tithe Applotment Book Look-up Please
« on: Friday 30 November 18 05:41 GMT (UK)  »
I have found my GGGgrandfather, John LYNCH, listed on the 1832 Lisnadill Civil parish Tithe Applotment Book index and was wondering if anyone has access to the full details and what would be contained in there. The index just supplies his name and the townland of Magherarval.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I live in Australia so a physical lookup is impossible for me and I can't seem to find anything further online.

I've found the birth/baptism of an ancestor on IFH where the address is given as Maheriarviel, Armagh. Can't find anything that matches this & so was wondering if it could mean Magherarville, Armagh?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Angus (Forfarshire) / David WALLACE
« on: Friday 15 July 11 21:36 BST (UK)  »
A quick bit of background info first........David WALLACE was born C1835 in Arbroath to Robert & Mary nee MATHER. He married my ggreat aunt, Mary LYNCH, in December 1856 & they had a child, Helen, in 1858 in Dundee. After that they dissappear (as a couple). Helen is then raised by her maternal grandparents until 1865 when she comes out to Australia with Mary's two sisters, one of whom is my ggreat grandmother. I've always suspected David deserted Mary & Helen for whatever reason...have never been able to find a death in Scotland for him BUT have turned up some interesting newspaper articles on him and this is where I need some help please.
In August 1855 he committed burglary with a James Falconer (the witness on his later marriage certificate!) and was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment. This was noted in the Dundee Courier report on 5th December 1855 regarding Emily Currie/Mitchell being charged with the same offence but can find no separate record re the original charging of David & James. Where would he have served the sentence?
In July of 1858, in the Hull Packet & East Riding Times he is noted as being apprehended for a rape committed (not a nice person!) in Arbroath and handed over to a constable for return to same, but once again can find no Dundee Courier report about this incident or subsequent sentencing. I'd have thought this would have been reported at the time?? Can anyone find any further reports/records on this?
Now's the tricky bit........a David WALLACE & David SUTTIE were tried in Perth for robbery with violence in 1862 and sentenced to 6 years penal servitude (in Australia). They were both Gunners in the Fifeshire Militia at the time of sentencing. In trying to connect this David to the other two (which would fit with why I can't find further records for "my" David Wallace in Scotland), I was wondering if it was customary for prisoners to be forced to join the militia as part of their sentence or even after time served??
Sorry to be so long winded but can anyone help me put this jigsaw together please?

Lancashire / Elizabeth & Thomas PINNINGTON
« on: Friday 15 July 11 20:36 BST (UK)  »
Help Please!
Have hit a brick wall in trying to find the marriage of Thomas PINNINGTON & Elizabeth (nee STRINGFELLOW), & also death of Elizabeth.
Have the birth/christening details of all their children from 1811 to 1829, all born Liverpool, and the deaths of Thomas & his mother Ellen, both in 1830, Liverpool.
Thomas was born 1790 & Elizabeth 1792, both once again in Liverpool.
Have searched the LDS & OPC sites but to no avail.  ???
There is one possible death for Elizabeth in 1835 at St Thomas, Melling....correct age, but don't know how to confirm this. Have searched for a newsaper death notice but once again, no luck. This death fits in with oral family history about Henry Crowther (the youngest child) who came out to Australia aged 11(as an orphan ) in 1838, aboard the Canton.
Because this family was reasonably prominent, Thomas was an Auctioneer/Appraiser, I would have thought that after his death, Elizabeth would have been able to take care of herself & the children, had she not died early. Hence the orphan angle??
Any help/advice always appreciated.

Australia / Assisted Emigration
« on: Sunday 13 March 11 17:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All
I have a query on the payment of assisted passage from England in the 19th century please.
I've found the details of payment for the passage to SA of my ggrandmother from the Schedule of Assisted Passage Certificates, which shows payment was made after she arrived.
Does anyone know if this was the norm?
Cheers
