England / Error in GRO:BMD Oct/Nov/Dec 1837
« on: Thursday 15 February 07 20:41 GMT (UK)  »
I've reported this to the site already, but thought I should let people here know...if you call up the Oct/Nov/Dec 1837 page for BMD, you actually get the page for 1857 instead.

You can see the 1857 date clearly at the top of the page.

Just in case  it affects anyone who has been searching that period of time...

Cheers,
Elizabeth

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Beattey/Beattie/Hughes 1841 Census Request
« on: Monday 12 February 07 04:12 GMT (UK)  »
This is my first post, and I'm somewhat new to this. A person at FamilyTreeCircles suggested I might post a request here for information.

For years now I have been searching for information on my maternal ggg-grandmother. Ideally I'd like to go back even farther in the maternal line, but I'm stuck at Harriet Hughes, b. Dec 23, 1837, somewhere in Great Britain.

Harriet came to North America in August 1849 on the packet ship Sheridan, in the company of Archibald Beattie (Beattey), gentleman, his wife and family. She was 11 years old. She may have been travelling with them as a servant, or she may have been related to them, a niece or cousin.

I know a good deal about Harriet's life after she arrived in Canada, married Theodore Coates Lusty, and had several children, settling in Hornings Mills, Ontario.

What I'd really like to know is where she was born, and who her parents were. I think my best plan may be to search for information on Archibald Beattie, in the hope that Harriet was related to the family. Mr. Beattie was 39 at the time the Sheridan sailed, so he was born about 1810. The ship set sail from Liverpool. Harriet stated in a Canadian census that she was born in England. The name "Archibald Beattie" seems to be Scots, but I could be wrong on that.

I'm sorry I have so little information, but if anyone has access to 1841 census information that includes Harriet Hughes or Archibald Beattie/Beattey, I'd love to hear from you.

Cheers,
Elizabeth
