Armed Forces / British Navy in the 1840's-John Noble
« on: Friday 07 January 05 16:25 GMT (UK)  »
I'm sure I read somewhere in here where you could find out information about the British Navy, but I can't find it.
I have a John Noble, 40, listed on the 1841 census with my 4xGreat Grandfather James Birchall and his wife Ellen (Noble) Birchall as being in the Navy. I wanted to see if I could come up with any info on him, as my family has it in their head that my Birchall side had British Navy seamen in their family. I'm wondering if they don't have it wrong.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

Hey all, I just wanted to let everyone know that irishgen.com is offering a free lookup of your irish relatives for the month of November. It's being done by a professional and will probably take a little time to get the info back, but it might be worth it.

I'm going to give it a try. Maybe they can find my lost Catherine. LOL!!  ;)

The Common Room / Parish records for St. Peter's church Liverpool
« on: Saturday 30 October 04 21:17 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me how to get my hands on records from the St. Peter's Church in LIverpool? I know that they are on microfiche at the Liverpool library, but I live in the US.

I was told if I knew a month or a date and a month, someone would do the research for me, but that's the problem. I'm far enough back where I can't totally put dates together and the LDS site just doesn't have the info to help me. I'm trying to find out if my 4x great grandfather had any brothers or sisters, but I can't even pinpoint a birthdate for him. Help!!!!  :-\

The Common Room / I could just scream!!!
« on: Thursday 14 October 04 20:08 BST (UK)  »
I really need to vent..so here goes!!!

Four weeks ago I oredered my Great grandfather's birth certificate or register, certified mind you, from Rhode Island. Last week, I received copies of death registers for people, not in my family line. I called Rhode Island and was told they'd send the right stuff out. Human error...not a problem.

Today, in the mail, I receive the birth register copies of one unknown female Birchall, born 1891, Frederick Birchall, born 1893 and finally...William H. Birchall, my Great Grandfather. Low and behold..IT'S NOT ONLY NOT CERTIFIED...IT'S JUST ABOUT ILLEGIBLE. I sat there in amazement and then just cried. When I ordered the death certificates for Great Great Grandfather Thomas and his wife Catherine..they were certified and beautifully copied, even the copy out of the register for Catherine's death. What an utter disappointment!!!!!  :'(

The Common Room / Not 2 Jane's anymore!!!!!!
« on: Saturday 09 October 04 04:27 BST (UK)  »
I just figured out the 2 Jane's in the same Birchall family, and we can thank either the census enumerator or senility on the part of Frances. Jane 2 born around 1873 was actually James Cooper Birchall, born 1872. I found him while doing a parent search on the LDS website. GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm seeing about 6 shades of red right now. To boot, yesterday I received my info from RI for my great grandfather, only it wasn't his birth info...due to human error, it was a list of Dec. deaths for 1893-94. None of whom were my relatives. Anyone looking for deaths in RI during those years in Dec.? I may have info for you.  :D

The Common Room / 2 Janes for the same family????
« on: Friday 01 October 04 23:12 BST (UK)  »
I have a very strange situtation here.... On the 1871 England census I have a Jane Birchall, born around 1865, listed as being 6 yrs. old. On the 1881 census, Jane is listed again...only born in 1873..and 8 yrs. of age. Now, I would've given this to just error, and thought maybe even that Jane #1 had passed. However, I found Jane #1 listed with James and Arabella Speakman. Arabella was Jane's older sister. The age doesn't add up for any of the other children, either, thus, my confusion.
Any ideas?????

Completed Census Requests / 1831-Lancashire England census-Birchall
« on: Friday 01 October 04 20:38 BST (UK)  »
Could someone please look up James and Ellen Birchall with a son Thomas Birchall (born @ 1826) in the 1831 England census please. Also still looking to see if anyone has found Thomas and Frances Birchall in the 1861 Scottish or British census. I'm wondering if it was mispelled like Birchal, or Birchell or Burchill. Let me know if there's any luck or if it's not possible.

I went to ancestry's but duh...the census' aren't that far back and i forgot. The one's on the BMD sites haven't given me much luck either. I think the ancestors are playing hide and seek again. GRRRR!!!!
