The Common Room / Can I claim this family?
« on: Saturday 15 February 20 02:33 GMT (UK)  »
I have a definite birth of  John Harrison Ward 1822 - confirmed from parish register, showing parents James and Elizabeth. I have the marriage of James and Elizabeth Parsabell, in the parish of Lythe January 1818. Witnesses to this marriage were Thomas and David Ward - I assumed they were brothers to James. So I then worked backwards and found indeed that a James Ward abt 1790 did have two younger brothers Thomas and David. Going further back four more children found all having same parents - David Ward and Jane Robinson. So what more confirmation do I need before I can claim this family as mine?  Hope this all makes sense,  :) :) Thank you.

Australia / CUMMINGS/DAVENPORT/HALL marriage S.A
« on: Monday 02 August 10 00:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

Hope this makes sense - I have a Susan Eliza Hall b. 1880 Walkerville, SA. a 'marriage' to Joseph Benjamin Cummings [that's his real name] abt 1902.  First three daughters were registered as surname Davenport, then following children as Cummings.  We think he was never divorced from his first wife, in fact he had another wife after Susan Hall [without bothering to divorce Susan].
Susan and Joseph must have gone through some sort of 'marriage' ceremony because she applied for his war pension and then found out about the first wife.
Could someone please try to find a marriage for Susann and Joseph [we've found that he was also going by the name of Roy Davenport].

Thanks, Maureen

Technical Help / searching census cds
« on: Wednesday 08 April 09 00:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I bought a set of census returns for 1901 all on disc.  I thought I would be able to 'search' for names, without going through each page, but unfortunately I haven't figured out how to do this.  I've done a 'find' search and also 'search' pdf - but it comes up zero.
Could you please tell me if it's poss to search, and if so how do I do it?

thanks,

maureen

The Common Room / address on marriage certificate
« on: Thursday 27 March 08 00:16 GMT (UK)  »
This is really just curiosity.  I have a marriage cert. for my ancestors.
Two years before mariage [1851 census] they were living in the same street [not same house] in Sunderland.  Their marriage cert. in 1853 after Banns shows the same address for both of them 'No. 10 Church Street".  However their first born [1853] is shown on cert. as them back in the same house number as the 1851 census.  [am I making sense?]
Just wondering if the the 'No. 10 Church Street' maybe had something to do with the church. Did the churches maybe have special rooms?
just curious,

Denbighshire Lookup Requests / marriage [or anything] for Rogers Llandegla
« on: Thursday 29 November 07 00:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I have finally, [with a lot of help from rootschat] traced the Welsh side of the family Rogers :) :)
I have Edward Rogers, wife Gwen and family, in 1841 census for Llandegla, Denbighshire.  Would dearly love to find a  marriage for Edward Rogers and Gwen - looking at their ages I would think a marriage took place around 1824 - 26.

Also, address is Tany Bryn, Llandegla - is Tany Bryn an area or street?,
pls forgive my ignorance of language :-[

thank you,

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / robert rogers - how do I find his birthplace
« on: Monday 26 November 07 05:37 GMT (UK)  »
I have a marriage for St. Mary's Dover, 1856.

Robert Rogers, age 23, fathers name Edward Rogers, farm labourer.
Mary Hocking, age 21, fathers name John Hocking, cordwainer.

Both Robert & Mary living in Round Tower Street, Dover at time of marriage.  I've no problem on the Hocking side [especially thanks to Kris] but I can't find Robert or his father anywhere.  Can someone point me in right direction?

thanks, whpool
