The Common Room / Looking for post on fraudulent family trees
« on: Wednesday 27 May 09 14:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Quite some time ago there was information and discussion on a man who was responsible for fraudulent family trees that were accepted as legitimate.

I believe one of the names on the list was Halliday or Halladay.

I would appreciate receiving help to find this.

Regards,
Kathleen

Hi,

Interesting, isn't it how many amazing stories we find as we do our family searches?

The Common Room / A Slice of Canadian History Reclaimed

An archeologist's work, recently published, proves that a piece of Canadian history that was thought to be about Virginia's early discovery is ours.

Well done.

The Common Room / Nova Scotia Christmas Tree to Boston
« on: Tuesday 18 November 08 12:58 GMT (UK)  »
In 1917 the worst man-made explosion to date occurred in Halifax and devastated the city.  Help arrived from many places including Boston.

In gratitude, a special, very large tree is delivered to Boston every year.    Today is the day for delivery.

The Lighter Side / Thanks to PrueM

A fan of Prue's wonderful website Victorian and Edwardian Portrait Photography, I asked for and received her approval for an article.

I hope it brings more people into the 'gallery' who may find their family photos.

Antrim / Belfast to Canada

Over time, with tremendous help from RootsChatters, I was able to find many of my Grandmother's family.

As a young woman she came to Canada, but we knew little of her story.  She travelled on the first voyage of the Empress of Ireland.

I recently linked that information with the story of that great ship in an article.  Here is the link.

Canada Lookup Request / "Our Roots" "Nos Racines" LINK

This is a fascinating website of digitized books that are readable and searchable.  Many contain photos and maps.

There are local histories, biographies, and many interviews with people who came to Canada to make new
lives for their families.
