Anglesey / Churches and graveyards Beaumaris
« on: Thursday 11 September 08 07:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi, don't know if anyone can help. I recently sent away for burial inscriptions for the Church in Beaumaris from the Gwynedd Family History Society. When it arrived I searched for our family graves but there was no mention of them. I know that some of my family are buried in Beaumaris cemetery as I have seen them with my own eyes! (The graves that is not the ancestors!!!)The cemetery where I saw them is above the town looking down on the Menai Straits, thinking about it now it didn't have a church as such on the grounds. Is this not the church yard connected to the church that is the town?
If it has nothing to do with the other church that is just off the town centre, does anyone know where I might get the records for the graveyard above the town?
Also does anyone out there know if there is anywhere that you can find the details of Customs Officers, or Harbour Masters, as two generations of my ancestors where Customs Officers in Beaumaris, but other than saying this on the Beaumaris census I can't find anymore details about them.
Thank you for reading this, and any suggestions would be appreciated.

Merionethshire / Trawsfynydd Volunteers???
« on: Thursday 16 August 07 13:48 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I was wondering if anyone in the area could tell me who the Trawsfynydd volunteers were? I was on the Gathering the Jewels site and there is a photograph of men in some sort of uniform and all it says is "Trawsfynydd Volunteers 1890" The reason I am asking is because my Great Grandfather is away from home in the census and I found him with loads of other men in Trawsfynydd, they were all living in huts , my G. Taid John Price (from Montgomeryshire) is in Nant Y Lladron Hut with lots of other men. Taid was a Blacksmith and I had just presumed he was working on something in the area at the time.Anybody out there who has any idea what they were volunteering for, I would be very grateful.

Travelling People / Fairground Motorcycle Wall of Death
« on: Monday 02 July 07 18:26 BST (UK)  »
A long shot, but I am trying to find out something about my Grandmother's Brother William Price born Llanidloes Montgomeryshire in approx 1904
He travelled around the fairs riding the Wall of Death,I guess he would have had a "stage name"and not just used William Price.
I would love to find out more about him to put in his section of my family tree, or find out a bit more about the wall of death.
If anyone has any knowledge about this sort of thing ,I would be very interested to hear from you.

Occupation Interests / Master Blacksmith
« on: Monday 02 July 07 16:53 BST (UK)  »
My Great Grandfather is described as a Master Blacksmith on my Grandmothers wedding cert.On previous family certificates he was described as a Journeyman Blacksmith. Does anyone know what a Master Blacksmith was? Does it mean that he had attained the best qualification he could, or just that he had been in the trade for a long time?

London and Middlesex / Thomas Staples b. London Where do I go from here?
« on: Thursday 01 March 07 13:49 GMT (UK)  »
Can anybody help?

I was wondering how I go about tracing someone who was born in 1786? How do you go further back, and find out who his parents where?
I was suprised when tracing my welsh roots to find that my g g g grandfather was born in London!
I can find him on all the census in Wales, and on the "where born" bit it just says London approx 1786.
I am stuck now, and dont know how to go back any further. London is a big place and it doesn't say what borough  he was born in.
On all my research he is the Harbour Master in Beaumaris on Anglesey N Wales, I wonder why he went from London to do this job? It passed down the generations anyway and his son was also Harbour Master after him!

His name was Thomas Staples b London approx 1786 and that's all I have to go on, I am new to this, and totally new to the forum, and any advice as to where to go from here would be greatly appreciated!

Lancashire / Worthington's and Staples families
« on: Tuesday 27 February 07 11:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone in my favourite City of Liverpool!
I am researching the Staples family who came to Liverpool when the Harbour of Beaumaris on Anglesey closed, they moved to Liverpool with it being the nearest port I presume. I am doing quite well, and can trace a lot of them to the Toxteth area.
My Grandmother (who was a Staples ) married William Worthington and hence the new Worthington line began. My great great great grandfather was Richard Worthington (b 1774) who married a Sarah Prue. They had my g.g. Grandfather Richard Worthington(1811) who was a baker, I think in the West Derby area. He married Mary and their son Edwin Worthington my g Grandfather was a hairdresser.
I am new to computer chat, and this is my first time.
Anybody out there who may be connected in anyway, would love to hear from you!

Montgomeryshire / John Price
« on: Sunday 25 February 07 15:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am new to this, never been in chat room before, so bear with me.
I am getting very frustrated! Trying to locate my great Taid John Price. In the 1901 census he is in Llanidloes, he is a Blacksmith there. He was born in approx 1856 in Llanfyllin, so it says on the census. He is married to Mary and has 7 children Mary,Catherine(my Nain) David,Evan,Edward, Ethel and Agnes. My Nain always said that he married twice, so he has more children! The thing is I cant find him anywhere else, he is not on any of the other census years only the 1901 If anyone can suggest anything or know anything about the Price's I would be very grateful. My Nain always said they were a family from Foel, so I was suprised to se Llanfyllin and Llanidloes.
