Warwickshire / Seeking 2 Burial records please
« on: Monday 22 April 13 09:14 BST (UK)  »
Newbie asking if anyone is able to access the burial records for:

John Snead [or Sneayd] and his wife
Rebecca Snead [or Sneayd].
The BMD says that both husband and wife died in the March quarter of 1848 in Aston [Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire], but have been able to find the actual burial records.
Other info. held is that this Couple married at Holborn, St Sepulchre, London on 26 Oct. 1810. The husband was a Widower at that time, and the wife´s maiden name was ´Deards´.  They had 7 known children.  The 1841 Census gives the husband´s age as 70 and the wife´s as 54 [so that would give her a  birth date of about 1787]. Have been unable to find a baptismal record for Rebecca so far.
Could anyone assist me please to access the burial records. I have tried ´Ancestry´and ´Findmypast´so far without success.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Looking to access a record entered on "UK, Extracted Probate Records" on the ancestry.co.uk Website.
Can anyone tell me how and where I can access the record for Humphrey Cole? The text reads "Cole, Humphrey, St. Gregory by St Paul´s, London 1591 183"
"Book: Index to Arts of Administration in the Prerogative Con Canterbury 1581-1595[Acts of Administration]"
"Collection: England; Canterbury - Administrations in The Prerogative Court of Canterbury, 1581-1595"

I have failed to find the above information in the National Archives. and because I live abroad I am unable to visit the UK.
Can anyone help me please?

Family History Beginners Board / Whatever happened to Samuel Dardes?
« on: Wednesday 30 March 11 13:03 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone able to help me find out what happened to the above-named person please?  The IGI gives his christening date as 23 Jan 1630 @ Great Munden, Hertford; Parents shown as John & Deborah Darge, but I think the correct surname was "Dardes", based on other birth and marriage records for the family. He was the 3rd of four known children.  I believe Samuell married an Elizebeth Man @ St Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury, London in 1654 [IGI].  I found two children presumbly born to them -  John in 1662 and Samuell in 1664, also @ the same Parish.  I have been advised that the son John married a Mary Bloxom @ St James, Duke´s Place, London in Aug 1684. [To complicate matters, sometimes the surname was recorded as Dards, Deard, Deards, or Derd, amongst other variations].  Can anyone advise me please about what happened to the two Samuells, father & son after 1664, because no other records have been found for them since, or advise me how I should pursue my enquiries.

The church of Aldermanburywas destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666, but was re-built by Christopher Wren about 10 years later.

Thanks for your help.

London and Middlesex / Alexander Dards or Deards
« on: Saturday 15 January 11 12:21 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone out there have access to old London BMD records please?
I´ve a copy of a Burial record for Alexander Dards dated 29th April 1680 from Ancestry [London, England, Extracted Parish Records from the London Collection; St Mildred [Bread Street] & St Margaret Moses - Parish Registers, 1558-1853].
The Nat. Archives also indicate that Alexander Dards died in about 1680.  An inventory was later made of his Goods. He was Married, and probably had a Daughter named Elizabeth Deards who was buried on 22nd January 1731 @ St Leonard, Shoreditch, from Charles Square, aged about 60 years - so she  was born in about 1671.  I´ve found a possible Baptism for an Elizabeth Dards dated 7th Dec 1671 @ St Mary Aldermary, London, in the City of London, Parent shown as Alexander Dards.
What I´m seeking please are details of Alexander´s Wedding, the name of his Spouse, his Parents, and the names of any other brothers & sisters of the Elizabeth mentioned above.
The only other information I have, that might be connected, is for a Miss Rebecca Deards who was buried on 21st February 1725 @ St Leonard, Shoreditch, also from Charles Square [? The same Family Home as Elizabeth?].  I have a Rebecca Deards of William & Jane who was born on July 23rd 1698 @ St Bartholomew By the Exchange, City of London.  William Deards married a Jane Hale [or Hals] by Licence on 6th October 1692 @ St Sepulchre, Holborn, London, & had three other known children named Mary, William & John.  It isn´t known when the 3 children were born/baptised. Mary married a John Martin in 1753, William a Margaret Morgan in 1754 [who had a Daughter named Rebecca born before 1761], and John a Mary Ann Gaucheron in 1773. William Snr. was buried @ St Dunstan in the West in June 1761.

Any other FH details you can supply about the Family would be much appreciated please.

Regards,
Barbara Deards

Family History Beginners Board / What happened to Emily Deards please?
« on: Friday 19 November 10 11:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hello there,

The last entry seen for Emily was on the 1861 census taken @ Welwyn, Herts..  There she is shown as an apprentice milliner aged 14 living withg George A. Wynn & Family.

Emily Deards was born in the Mar 1/4 of 1847 @ Hitchin, Herts, the youngest surviving child of about 5 other children.  Her Parents, George & Maria Deards died in 1854/5, and Emily´s siblings moved from Herts to Surrey before moving on later to the London area.

No further info. has been found for Emily.  For example did she marry after 1861?  Please note there is another entry for a birth of an Emily Deards also in 1847, but in the London area, who married later, but there is no apparent connection between the two families.

Does anyone hold any further info. about "my" Emily Deards please?

Thank you for your help.

Greetings from Spain,

Can anyone out there help me please?  I hold some F.H. details for the above Deards family, but many other B.M.D. records are unknown.  My records start on 24 Aug 1684 when John Deards married Mary Bloxom @ St James, Duke´s Place, London.  They had 4 known children named William, Elizabeth, Mary & John.  All 4 children later married, but one of them, John, [who himself had a son, also named John], died before his parents did.  John, the Grandson became a Master Mariner who died in 1755.  His Will stated that his next of kin was "his Uncle William the Toyman" - presumably the son of John Deards & Mary [nee] Bloxom.  The father, John died in abt. 1730/31 & his widow Mary in 1738 - both buried in St Dunstan´s Church, London.  This Mary left a Will.  "Uncle William" died in June 1761 @ Dover Street, Piccadilly, London and the main beneficiaries of his Will were, he said, his two "assumed sons" William, & John Deards - who was to take over the business, a daughter Mary Martin [nee Deards] and a Granddaughter, Rebecca Deards [then a Minor] - who was the assumed daughter of William Deards.

Re- the two "assumed sons":-
1. John Deards married a Mary Gaucheron on 20 Nov. 1773, retired from business in the same decade, and died in Apr. 1794, also leaving a Will.  His widow & main beneficiary was Mary Deards [nee Gaucheron] who re-married in 1800, to a Mr. Charles March esq..
2. William Deards, meanwhile, ran a Toymakers´shop in Pall Mall, but he was made bankrupt in 1764.  His wife´s name was either Margaret or Mary.  By 1768/9 he had moved to Maryland, Colonial America where he worked as a clerk for the influential Caroll of Carleton Hall.  He returned to London after 1777, where he worked as an "extra clerk" for several years, and was known to be still alive in 1793.  The date of his death is unknown.

Can anyone add any more B.M.D. or other info. for this family please?

Many thanks.
Regards, Barbara [Deards]

P.S. The family´s other interest was in horseracing - to the extent that William [?? - 1761] and his son John [?? - 1794] were each appointed Clerk of the Course @ Newmarket.

Family History Beginners Board / Marriage of William Deards to Jane Odell
« on: Saturday 10 April 10 19:05 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone out there have any additional information about earlier genealogy records for the two people mentioned above please.  They were married in Thundridge, Herts [near Ware] in 1797, and had five known children all christened between 1797 & 1821 in Ware, Hertfordshire.  I hold quite a lot of info. about what happened later to this family, but have been unable to find any definitive christenings for William Deards, born about 1781, or his wife Jane.

Can anyone help please, to overcome my brick wall.

Thanks, in advance, for any help or advice you can give.

Barbara Deards [Spain]
