Somerset / Free Reg Baptism notes private??
« on: Friday 24 November 23 18:35 GMT (UK)  »
i have finally (after many many years) found the baptism of my great great granddad..George Allen Brewer on the Free Reg website. He was baptized in 1862 at St John the Baptist in Batheaston. The Problem is...in the notes section it says private. i would love to know what it says, as we don't know who his dad was and there could be something in the notes. Can anyone tell me why it would say private and how i can access this information without actually going to Bath... A long Trip! Thanks

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Can anyone help date this photograph?
« on: Tuesday 31 October 23 17:02 GMT (UK)  »
My grandad recently passed away, and we've started sorting the house out. We found this old locket and have no idea who the people are. I've attached a photo of the younger gentleman, as he has a cap on and it looks like a badge on it. We don't know if it's military, or even if it's a uk uniform. Can anyone help date or identify the badge on the hat?
Many thanks

Berkshire / Burials St Andrews boxford
« on: Wednesday 10 November 21 22:56 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know where I can find maybe a cemetery map of St Andrews church in Boxford? I've emailed the church, but I've not had a reply as yet. I'm planning on visiting the churchyard in the near future, and I doubt that  any of my ancestors have headstones. If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be most appreciated
Many thanks

Berkshire / Confused since maiden names shown on pre 1911 births
« on: Tuesday 05 November 19 18:27 GMT (UK)  »
I have a John Jennings, born c1854 Newbury Berks. He married Mary soper, from ashmansworth, hants b. c1853, m. 1874 Highclere.

Now, i have them on the 1891 census, all living at the newbury union workhouse with their children...John, james, ann, thomas and margaret rose.

I've looked all these children up on FindMyPast, and their mothers maiden name is Green.
BUT, all their birth dates and places tally with the children on the 1891 census.

The only misift is margaret rose, whose mothers maiden name is soper.

I can't find a marriage for john jennings to mary green. But as i said, i can find one for mary soper.
You can see why i am so confused over this.
Who is this "Green" woman. And could it've been mistranscribed??
My head is spinning!
