Aberdeenshire / Murcar
« on: Thursday 29 February 24 17:09 GMT (UK)  »
So I am playing about on Scotlands People wondering about my Great Grandmother’s surname wondering how many Murcars are still about.

I looked at the 1911 census and it only comes up with 6.only two them male.

I looked at deaths between 1911 and 1921 and there was five possibly two who were born after 1911.

I looked at births between 1911 and 1921 and there are 7 or 8 (one possibly a duplicate.

So I was expecting on the 1921 census to be perhaps around ten Murcars, but no there are 26 with 22 of them over 10. Where were they hiding in 1911?

Not very scientific research just intrigued me and thought I would share.

Scotland / Multiple Entries on Scotland’s People
« on: Wednesday 19 July 23 11:39 BST (UK)  »
I was looking for a marriage and when I put in the name I got thirteen entries for the same name. It is a slightly unusual name with a distinct middle name so it looks like the same person. All the entriesi are Kirkcaldy. Two to a Stewart in 1972, Three to a Robert in 1976. Four to Thomas Stewart A in 1985 and four to Thomas Stewart W in 1985. The eight Thomas Stewart marriages have the same reference number.

Any one a clue as to what is going on here?

I have found a wedding at 9 Bank Street, Edinburgh. The next entry in the register is also at the same address. Both grooms are seaman. Does anyone know what this address was?

My father completed his National Service in the RAF between 1950 - 1953. He took a few photos of himself and colleagues some with people named I wonder if it would be appropriate and of interest to members if I posted them on here?

Does anyone have access to information on Aberdeenshire monumental inscriptions. I am interested in a George Cowie who died in St. Fergus in 1844 (I appreciate at the time this was Banffshire).

Scotland / Deaths in District
« on: Friday 03 March 23 17:43 GMT (UK)  »
I was trying to get a number for Deaths in a specific district in 1875 on Scotlands People however it seems to be showing deaths over the whole county. Am I unable to do this?

Ps

Strange, I just tried another town, Airdrie, and it is saying 405 all in Airdrie Whereas Bellshill is still saying over 29,000 and all over the county of Lanark.

When I select Motherwell and Motherwell and Bellshill together it gives the County wide figure but the other districts give the district number.

Antrim / Census - Something not right
« on: Wednesday 04 January 23 15:35 GMT (UK)  »
So I was looking at the family of John and Mary McClelland. Here they are in 1911

www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai001526522/

John is given as being forty years of age and Mary forty six, with them being married twenty six years. That would have made John fourteen when they got married. Perhaps it was a mistake, but here they are in 1901.

www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai000348788/

John is thirty years of age, and here is the marriage in 1885 which would coincide with the twenty six year married in 1911 however John is given as Full Age not fourteen.

Here is their eldest daughter’s birth in 1887 when John would have been seventeen.

Has John got his age wrong in both census or am I barking up the wrong tree? Strangely John gives his birthplace in 1901 as County Down then in 1911 gives Down but this is changes to Armagh was he confused about where and when he was born?

I know daughters Jane and Mary end up in Scotland however I cannot pinpoint the death of the parents or what happened to Margaret.
