Kinross-shire / Archibald - Kinross
« on: Tuesday 27 March 07 10:04 BST (UK)  »
Having received assistance and read help other's have received I am hoping for further assistance on this section of my tree.

It has been stagnant for nearly 18 months, and would really love a break or even better..... Bump into someone searching the same tree.

My section of tree for Archibald finishes in Middlesbrough after moving in 1850s.

I have traced back to Andrew Archibald and Margaret Forrester (married 1776) with a child (one of five) Charles Archibald (b 1785 cameron, fife, scotland. Parents as Andrew archibald and margaret foster)marrying Betsey Borland. I am struggling to get further back at present. I believe Andrew's father was also called Andrew and I estimate birth around 1750.

I have a marriage 12th May 1776 - Kinross, Scotland

I have a marriage 10th May 1776 - Burntisland, Fife, Scotland

For Margaret I have references to Forrester, Forester, Foster and Forster as I look into it, and am aware that marriages in scotland could be logged up to three times (the marriage and homes for bride and groom).

Canada Lookup Requests Completed / Finding records in Canada
« on: Thursday 22 March 07 14:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

Many thanks to JJ, KarenM and all that contributed to assist me.

Whilst I am not looking to progress the Canadian side back through time until I get stuck on a few other leads I have the general question...

How easy is it to trace ancestors back in time for Canada?

I ask as England is pretty good with census information in 1841 and free census information such as 1881.

Scotland has proven even more helpful than England for me.

How far back did Canada keep records (Scotland - not too bad getting to late 18th centuary and England tough pre-1830s).

Canada Lookup Requests Completed / Littlefair's - Ontario
« on: Wednesday 21 March 07 12:08 GMT (UK)  »
Morning,

I am currently tidying up a branch on my tree (not direct descendants), but have been pleasantly surprised to find that they moved to Canada.
Very interested to find teh reasons for this, and wishing to see if I have a tie in on another person's tree.

Also I would love to know how to pursue Canadian resources more efficiently as I am more familiar with England/ Scotland.

The link(s) I have so far for the family -

They suddenly seem to disappear from Canada, UK, USA.... What happened?

Regards

Durham / Census contradiction?
« on: Wednesday 21 March 07 11:50 GMT (UK)  »
Morning,

I am currently tidying up a branch relating to my family, but am finding information that contradicts itself.

I have a william littlefair b 1805 and christen Satley, Durham as confirmed by familysearch.org, and two websites.

I get information that he was born 1811 from the 1841 census (married to marjorie)-

http://www.durhamrecordsonline.com/searchresults.php

I have him born 1805 in the 1851 census of Durham.

How possible is it that old records are misread or interpretted please?
A small issue, but one that is playing on my mind as I want as near to 100% accuracy as I can get.

Many thanks

I am aware of a relative that emigrated to Australia b1899 d1970.

Don't suppose anyone is tracing this tree?

He was living NSW.

Kinross-shire / Archibald, Cockburn, Todd
« on: Thursday 15 March 07 11:29 GMT (UK)  »
I am predominantly researching Archibald. They originated in Kinross before moving to Middlesbrough 1840s in my tree.

I am trying to locate details of a 1776 kinross wedding between a Forest (forrest, Foster) and Archibald with a view to confirming a date of around 1753 for Archibald.

Anyone looking along similar lines?

Regards

Morning all,

Only joined Roots today, and it looks to be a vibrant community.

Predominantly I am researching Littlefairs and am trying to confirm a tree I have been passed heading back to 1580s. I believe I have some 200 Littlefairs and would like to join branches.

Names that feature in the tree include -

Archibald (have back to 1750s in Scotland. 1830 onwards Middlesbrough)
Johnson (back to 1820s)
Bellerby (back to around 1750)
Craggs (1840s)
Toward (1840s)
Turner
Leverick

Anything sounding familiar?

Regards
