The Common Room / Alfred Ambrose Stokeley
« on: Friday 22 October 21 16:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Can anyone shed any light on where this man was before 1911?  He gives birth in Brisely Norfolk about 1864 on that Census and they are living Kings Lynn Norfolk. But search as I might I can't find him prior to this. He is with Martha Manning (Maybe wifey) but no record. She was wed to a William Manning who died around the turn of the century I think.
Its said that each time she had a child it depended on what mood she was in as to what name they were registered. Some Green some Stokeley (diff spellings). And some cannot be Greens by simple deduction.  Unless I'm missing something? Was there a name change? Heaven knows.
Thanks in advance for any enlightenment. :)

The Common Room / More recent marriages?
« on: Tuesday 29 June 21 09:58 BST (UK)  »

Hope this is allowed?
Can anyone trace whether a marriage or cival ceremony has taken place in past 25 years in London? Most likely Hackney - though possibly Walthamstow. Same sex male marriage. A sudden death has caused need of answers & I don't know where to turn. Thanks

The Common Room / Pike, running away from an orphanage or Workhouse
« on: Sunday 10 May 20 20:02 BST (UK)  »
My dad's uncle Jack (John William Stewart)sdad was most probably also called John (both used Jack)
It's said the elder, along with his brother, who if family hand down names go, was possibly Reuben, ran away from an Orphanage or a Workhouse. Have to guess that he may have been born 1885, so running away from anywhere he would have to be able to. However, once they ran they changed their name to Stewart. I'm pretty sure their real name was Pike. Not sure on area.. Scottish link somewhere as uncle Jack the younger was in the Highland something military.
The family did live in Grimsby or Louth at one point and Jack the elder wed Mary (Price?) and later someone called Margaret Furlong from Liverpool, or lived with her.
My Ancestry dna has given lots of Pikes as distantly related to me but I've no subscription at this time to contact anyone.. Is there any Pikes on here who have a story like this? Or any way to ever find who these boys were originally? Iv no idea where what or when.. Just names. Jack senior had large family.. Jane, Nora, Grace, Walter, Reuben, John(Jack) William, no idea of order.  But some Grimsby /Louth I believe as they wed back into family, Price etc there.
Is this a lost case? Just interested to see if it can be solved.. Thank you.
My dna is on Ancestry, MyHeritage and Gedmatch if anyone feels they might have answers or be related..
