Lancashire Lookup Requests / Poss 1841 census lookup
« on: Wednesday 25 April 07 21:53 BST (UK)  »
Good Evening

I have located the 1851 census details for John Ainsworth born 1813 in Wrea Green, Lancashire he is the head of the household and listed as an Ag. Labourer.

What i cant find though is a census record for him in 1841 either as the household head or as the son. Hopefully there is one for him as the son as what i really would like to know is who his parents are.

The following are in the 1851 census

Alice Ainsworth 2
Ellen Ainsworth 15
John Ainsworth 38  (Head)
John Ainsworth 13
Margaret Ainsworth 36  (Wife)
Margaret Ainsworth 6
Mary Ainsworth 11
Thomas Ainsworth under 1 Mo
William Ainsworth 8

Any help really appreciated

Cheers

Andrew

The Common Room / RootsWeb And ID Numbers
« on: Wednesday 11 April 07 19:54 BST (UK)  »
Having found some information on a RootsWeb WorldConnect tree that is common to my research, I have been trying to verify some of the birth dates that have been listed.

I have tried IGI, Ancestry etc but cannot get the exact birth date that has been listed, just a possible quarter of the year.

one for example is this

Baptism: 27 JUN 1880 Inskip, Lancashire, England
Note: ID Number: 11523 Ancestry.com

How do i use that ID Number to obtain more info, any help appreciated

cheers

The Common Room / DIfferent Views Within Software
« on: Wednesday 11 April 07 17:13 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Just a quick query if anyone can clear it up or offer some advice, i am currently using Roots Magic as my genealogy software, the problem i am finding is using the Pedigree view, in that all i can see are the parents for each line of decendants, i have entered in numerous children/marriages for the siblings under the family view but its getting a little difficult to keep track of who belongs where.

Is there a way i can see all the children and marriages in a tree style view, or any software that allows me to view them that way to make it easier follow

many thanks in advance

Completed Census Requests / What Sites Do You Use ?
« on: Sunday 01 April 07 23:09 BST (UK)  »
As i'm pretty new to this i have only signed up to one site, that being findmypast.com, the problem i am finding though is that i am getting so many search results that i would have to use £25.00 of credits just to view them all and even then there is no guarantee i would find what i'm looking for.

Are there any other sites that can be recommended by those with more experience.

many thanks

« on: Saturday 31 March 07 23:03 BST (UK)  »
Having obtained the birth certificate of my grand father, the only information i can find from it is his birth date and mothers maiden name.

I have looked on findmypast.com and viewed the record for my grand father and again all that is on there is the district of birth and his mothers maiden name.

can anyone give me some advice as where to look to find his fathers forename and birthdate etc

New Zealand Completed Requests / Lady Jocelyn Ship & SWARBRICK
« on: Friday 30 March 07 11:33 BST (UK)  »
While researching my family tree i have found out that two brothers travelled to New Zealand on this ship.

LADY JOCELYN - LONDON TO TAURANGA
27 September 1880 - 02 January 1881

the passenger list is as follows, and they also had a son born on board who they named Jocelyn after ship.

SWARBRICK  Alice 7, Daniel 5, Emily 3, Harriett 11, Isabella 8, John G 2, Jonathan 6,  Jonathan, Oswald 4m, Sarah Mrs 36,

SWARBRICK  William, Prudence Mrs 30, Jocelyn

1881   January   1st   Mrs William Swarbrick      A son

I was wanting to find out if i still had any living relatives in New Zealand, but the only info i can find is a log of the Birth for Jocelyn, i also have a lot of letters that have been sent from New Zealand by the two brothers to their remaining family in the UK, but they stop after a few years.

Dose anyone have any information or some advice about where best to look.

many thanks

Andy
