I realize this is intricate but if anyone can restore this photo, especially faces a bit more, I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you so much for trying.

Hertfordshire Lookup Requests / Murray sisters from Walton? Hertfordshire
« on: Sunday 12 June 16 01:38 BST (UK)  »
In the 1881 census, Jane Murray b. 1822 and her sisters, Mary A. Archer b.1825, and Eleanor E. Murray b.1843 are living together in Bromley, London, Middlesex.  They are ALL listed as being born in WALTON, Hertfordshire...  I would really like to find their birth records but Walton doesn't seem to exist.  Would anyone have an idea what this should be and have access to the corresponding parish records.  Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am hoping that this is my missing great-great grandmother, Jane.  Thank you.

Hertfordshire / Elstree School 1861
« on: Saturday 07 September 13 04:36 BST (UK)  »
Would someone be able to help me figure out where in the 1861 Census I would find the enumeration of the "Elstree School".  I couldn't find it on Ancestry under the  'Elstree' District.  It was a private school run by the Sanderson family from 1869 on.
Thanks for your help.

FH Documents and Artefacts / 1849 Will of Richard Berens, Esquire
« on: Friday 01 February 13 23:02 GMT (UK)  »
I have a copy of the Will of Richard Berens, Esquire - Bursar/Fellow All Souls College Oxford.  Among the list of servants that are recipients is my g-g grandmother.  Only she and one other gentleman have a note beside their names that says "if in 'Tutor's' Service".  What would this mean?  Was she a student/servant? Does 'Tutor' refer to something specific?
There are also some 'hieroglyphics' in the 'Consanguinity' column beside each name.  The one by hers almost looks like a scrawled 'F' and a capital 'E' without the top bar on it.  Would anyone know the meaning of this 'code'?  I've never been able to figure out from this Will if she 'worked' at his Queen Street, Mayfair home, or perhaps Oxford home...   Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

London and Middlesex / The Will of Richard Berens, Esquire Mayfair Queen St.
« on: Friday 01 February 13 18:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. I am at a brick wall with my g-g grandmother Jane Murray. I know nothing about her except that a set of Bibles exist in the family that were given to her in 1849 with the inscription "Given by Henry Berens from the library of her late master Richard Berens in memory of her care & attention toward him. June 22, 1849".  I discovered that Richard Berens of All Souls College Oxford also had a home at 19 Mayfair Queen St. London, and a Will listing Jane Murray as recipient of 50 pounds at his death "if in Tutors service".  Would 'tutors service' reference something other than servant?  Anyhow, would anyone know if there would be household records for staff existing for prominent families that far back, or any other records one could think of that I might be able to gleen ANY information from regarding Jane? Also, I'd be interested in knowing if anyone at that time could find a 'job' in prominent homes, or if Jane would have had to have references to work for the Berens family?  I don't even know her date of birth, so wonder if she could have been a young girl in his service as well as a pupil ('tutors service')?  I have also looked for 19 Mayfair in the 1841 census & don't see her there.  Any help & direction would be very appreciated.  Thank you.

Canada Lookup Request / Help with ship record on Ancestry - Schauer
« on: Saturday 03 January 09 23:30 GMT (UK)  »
Ancestry.com has a reference to a "Frederica Schauer" in their ship records for Canada, sailing to the port of Montreal, Quebec.  Would someone be kind enough to let me know what year it is showing on that entry (or any other information, ie. ship name),  as I can then find him (yes, it was actually a Frederick) in the Archive.ca ship manifests.

Thank you so much.

Lancashire / George & Martha Poulter - Salford
« on: Sunday 22 June 08 20:27 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the living family of George Poulter and Martha Buck.  They both were born in Hertfordshire in 1870, and after marrying there they moved to Broughton (Salford) Lancashire where George was a tailor.  They raised two boys: Frederick G. Poulter (b. about 1897) and John H. Poulter (b. 1899) both born in Broughton.  Both sons raised families in the Blackpool area but I haven't had much luck tracking any of them down.  My g-great grandmother, Fanny Buck was a sister to Martha.

Any help would be appreciated.

Oxfordshire / Richard Berens - All Souls College
« on: Sunday 22 June 08 05:02 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find a photograph of Richard Berens, Esq. D.C.L. who was a prominent Fellow and Bursar at All Souls College, Oxford in the early to mid 1800's.  I know that many photos exist as I found a quote in Gentlemans Magazine 1849 that stated 'his portrait has been exhibited at the Royal Academy'.
Can anyone help?

Kent / West Kent Cricket Club 1897
« on: Sunday 22 June 08 04:53 BST (UK)  »
There is a book by Philip Norman written in 1897 called the "Scores and Annals of the West Kent Cricket Club", and in it is a lengthy reference to two of its' members, Henry and Richard Berens.  I have been able to see a portion of it on Google books, but wasn't able to read the rest (as they only post a small piece).  Does anyone have access to this book and would they be able to let me know what the whole piece said about the Berens brothers?

Thank you.
