Lanarkshire / Help Please - Where is he on the 1891 census?
« on: Thursday 03 May 12 20:08 BST (UK)  »

I have  traced my ancestor from birth 1865 born in Leith, Edinburgh

His name is John McGoochan

I have him on the 1871 census, aged 6,

also on 1881 aged 16 in Parkhead Reformatory, Shettleston, Lanarkshire

In 1889 he married Isabella Lawson

FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS I CANNOT FIND HIM

In 1901 he appears on the census in H.M. Prison Greenside, Midlothian

I believe he died aged 48 in 1910 in the Poor House, Craiglockhart

Any help please in finding these missing ten years??

Aberdeenshire / Old Mill Reformatory School, Aberdeen
« on: Thursday 03 May 12 19:12 BST (UK)  »

I have an ancestor here on the 1891 census as 'Inmate' AGED 10

What is this place?

If it  is what we in England referred to as a  'Reform School' surely a 10 year old would be too young to be in such a place?

In my family tree I have a Lionel George Butler, born July 1897 in Lambeth.

In 1904 he married a Blanche Emily Porter.

I wonder if any one could please look up the entry for Lionel George Butler who appears to have gone to Canada 1895-1956 and then married in Ontario 1801-1928 to ascertain if its 'my' Lionel George Butler or not.

If you can be of help then thank you very much.

Technical Help / message 'Activity on this a/c' on Google.com-
« on: Tuesday 28 February 12 19:31 GMT (UK)  »
Just lately when signing in to my e mail address on Google.com a message is appearing which states the following:

This account does not seem to be open in any other location. However there may be sessions that have not been signed out.

It then says "Sign out all other sessions"

When pressing out of this  it then says:

Sucessfully signed out all other sessions. NOTE: Users can log in again if they know your password or have it saved on their computer.  If you are concerned about some one using your account without your permission PLEASE CHANGE PASSWORD.

As I had never had this message before, I did change my password but am still receiving the same message when signing into this.

There are no other programs open on this as far as I can see so why is this message keep coming up?

I am not very computer-wise so am  worried about this new message and wonder if any one can please put my mind at rest as to whether this is a problem or not?

Thank you

Technical Help / COMPLETED THANKS Norton 360 version 3.0 Help please
« on: Tuesday 13 September 11 20:03 BST (UK)  »
I am not at all computer literate -I can type and that's about all so please don't think me stupid but I am getting the following message when logging on :-

"Norton 2009 or Norton 360 version 3.0 has stopped working properly.

To solve this problem, go to Symantec Corporation website to download and install this update.

Click to go online to the Symantec Corporation website for update"

But my Norton logo is appearing as normal and when I click onto it it is saying I am protected.

I am not sure if this message I am getting is genuine - or am I being asked to click on to something that is going to be detrimental to my computer?

My computer was hacked into several months ago, because they said they were from my security site (not Norton but a different security site) and I allowed them access, so now I am paranoid about my security.

Thank you

Am unsure if I have posted this on the correct site.  I meant it to go on Technical Help?

If this is on the wrong site could some one please move it to the right one please as I dont know how to do it!

Thank you.

Occupation Interests / Help with 'Stage Archives'please
« on: Friday 06 February 09 20:28 GMT (UK)  »
Before I paid to subscribe to The Stage Archive, it   allowed me to enter a name for a search (Walter Lovick Butler).  I put in the name I was searching for and a few results came back.

I therefore paid the 5 pound subscription for 24 hrs. and tried to look at these 'results' but it had all different articles with just the first name of 'Walter' and lots of different surnames.

I couldnt make head nor tail of what I was meant to be doing and the results didnt seem to fit my man.

Am I doing something wrong?

Isn't the point of allowing you a 'search' before you subscribe is to see if there is any info on there relating to the person you are searching for?

Or do the results only match part of the name you have entered?  In other words, every body with the Christian name of 'Walter' will appear, even though the surname isnt the same as the one searched for?

Help and advice much appreciated please. - Rosie
