Family History Beginners Board / What does it mean?
« on: Wednesday 31 January 24 22:37 GMT (UK)  »
 I think I am confused.
From a search on Scotlands' People
I was looking for death of Charlotte Buchanan, nee Bell in 1918, married to
  William Bain Buchanan, and got this (correct details in all aspects but....}
  "Charlotte Bain
 formerly Buchanan
Widower of 1st John Reilley, bootmaker
 2nd William Buchanan
 formerly Bain, Private 2nd battalion
 Royal Scots Fusileers"

Can anyone explain what this this is telling me please
Did he or she alter their surname with middle?

(I do get the 1st widower bit)

  Cheers

Scotland / Can't Find death for Allan Syme Thornton
« on: Tuesday 02 June 20 19:42 BST (UK)  »
I have an Allan Syme Thornton, born 12/6/1884 in Doonside Maybole, married to Christina Spiers on 20/11/1904 in Blackfriars, Glasgow and I have him living in 41 Irongray St Glasgow in 1930

I cannot find his death, only that of their son, also Allan Syme Thornton in 1949
Is there any reason that his death would not be recorded ?

Thanks

Armed Forces Resources / Advice re 1952 Discharge from Army service book
« on: Friday 29 May 20 16:46 BST (UK)  »
I have found my fathers book, however all inside pages have been removed.
Would this be something done by the army if there was no service to record or has he
likely done this himself for some reason ?
Don't want to request records from army if they have removed due to no info.
Anyone else had this ?

Cheers

Lanarkshire / A MISSING KEMP......how to find ?
« on: Friday 08 February 19 22:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I have a James Kemp (43), born 09/11/1888, who died in SGH Hospital on 22/09/1932, whilst living at 43 Eaglesham Street Glasgow.
I cannot find a grave. All other family members, both before and immediately after, are all buried in Craigton Cemetery.

I have checked the Archive book for that Year at Mitchell Library but didn't see him.
I have checked the Lair records and he does not appear.
I have checked The records for Cardonald Cemetery, also with no luck.

Can anyone advise on any other possible information sources

Regards
Gordon

« on: Sunday 04 March 18 14:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I have a death record giving that persons parents but can find no record in Scotlandspeople site
of the parents marriage or of the mothers death.
They are my G.G Grandfathers parents, his death being in 1905
A James Black married to an Agnes McLean, son Thomas deceased in 1905 in Edinburgh.
Both parents also deceased at this time.

Any advice on where else to look or any thoughts on why I can't find these records ?

Cheers
