Suffolk / Suffolk SHARMANS
« on: Tuesday 24 July 07 08:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi, All

Looking for help again, please.

My husband's 4 x g grandparents are William Sharman and Judith.  We have been unable to find a marriage on the IGI so do not know Judith's surname plus have not found a birth/baptism for William on the IGI.

They had 14 children (that we know of) between 1774 and 1795 in Bardwell.

Any help anyone can give would be very welcome.

Thanks

Shropshire / Shrewsbury look up - COLE
« on: Friday 06 July 07 16:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi, All

My 3 x g grandmother was Mary Cole born circa 1806 in Shrewsbury.  Somehow she found her way to Lincolnshire and married Thomas Carpenter - as yet I have no idea where they married.

I have looked on the IGI for details of Mary's birth but could not find her.  There is an Elijah (some times Elisha) and Elizabeth who had children at the same time in the St Chads parish in Shrewsbury.  Mary called her eldest son Elijah, plus she had a Joseph and an Ann Elizabeth, all names which are associated with Elijah/Elizabeth.  I have also found a marriage in 1794 for Elisha Cole and Elizabeth Humphris in St Chads.  If someone could look this up for me, I would be very grateful - Elijah is such an unusual name that it seems a coincidence.

Also, on the 1841 census for Swinhope, Lincolnshire, Mary and Thomas are shown as having a daughter Lucy born circa 1827 but not in Lincolnshire.  I have not been able to find her on any subsequent census as I do not know where she was born or if she was Thomas' daughter.  I have been unable to find anything on freebmd under Cole or Carpenter for her fate.

Many thanks in advance for help anyone can give me.

Suffolk / Marriage - GODBOLD/Ann?
« on: Friday 29 June 07 07:38 BST (UK)  »
My 3 x g grandparents were Jonathon Godbold b circa 1782 in Stowupland and at some point he married an Ann, who according to census returns, was born circa 1786 in Creeting (which actual Creeting was not stated).  I have never been able to discover Ann's surname so have reached a brick wall which does not want to come down.

They had 10 children, the oldest of which was Ann born in 1811.  As far as I know Jonathon had married before to Mary Wink and had one child called Kezia.

If anyone could identify Ann for me and a marriage date/place I would be very grateful

Thanks

Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / Francis John COLLINS - COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 23 June 07 08:39 BST (UK)  »
Seeking more info on my 2 x g grandfather Francis Collins born around 1809 in Haughley.  I know his father was also Francis Collins as I bought a marriage certificate for Francis junior when he married in his 60s - he never actually married my 2 x g grandmother who had been married to someone else but I do not know the fate of him!!

Francis and Sarah (my 2 x g  grandmother) had 3 children and were living in Ipswich on the 1851 census.  Sarah died shortly afterward.  Francis was working as a drover and also received a Navy pension through Greenwich in London.

If anyone is able to help me I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Hertfordshire / Hertfordshire CLARIDGES
« on: Thursday 21 June 07 20:46 BST (UK)  »
My husband is a Claridge, descended from the Hertfordshire Claridges back to the children of Joshua Claridge and Hester Westwood born in St Pauls Walden in the 1770s.  We have not been able to find Joshua apart from one born some distance away in Yielden, Bedfordshire in 1742.  We have always thought that the distance between the 2 places to be to great for the times.

Does anyone know of any other Claridges earlier than this in Hertfordshire?  There seems to be very few before this according to the IGI.

Leicestershire / POLLARD & WORMELL in Edmondthorpe
« on: Tuesday 19 June 07 07:18 BST (UK)  »
Morning, all

My 2 x g grandparents were John Pollard & Charlotte Wormell (various spelling).  I have been able to identify John's ancestors but not Charlotte's.  I purchased their marriage certificate but for both of them it says deceased for father's name.

On the 1841 census Charlotte is shown with a small child called Elizabeth who died shortly afterward.  There are 3 possibilities with this child - she was John's; Charlotte had been married previously or the child's father was not known.  John is shown on the 1841 census with 2 sons from a previous marriage, which I believe to be to a Mary.

I would like help to take Charlotte futher back and also discover the full name of John's first wife.  I have looked on the IGI but have found nothing.

Thanks

Australia / William Moore CORNISH descendants
« on: Saturday 09 June 07 15:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi, All

My husband & I have a collision in our trees and are both looking for the same info.

William Moore Cornish was born in Suffolk in 1814, married a girl from Somerset, had 3 children and then headed south, arriving in SA 13 Feb 1849.  They had a further 4 children when they arrived.  We have some details for marriages/grandchildren but are looking for any help as far up to date as possible.  The children were:  Charles Cox Cornish, Rowland Clements Cornish, Ann Mary Sloper Cornish, William Henry Cornish, Thomas Cornish, Sarah Selina Cornish and Robert Clements Cornish.    We have no marriage or death dates for the last 3.  The others all had children except William Henry Cornish - at least we have no evidence to suggest a marriage/children.

Look forward to any info anyone can give us.

Thanks in advance

Galway / CADWELL of Galway
« on: Friday 08 June 07 13:56 BST (UK)  »
My husband's 3 x g grandmother was a Mary Ann Cadwell, born circa 1822 in Galway (actual area unknown) and she married Frederick Ewington in Offley, Herts in 1837 and some time after his death she married George Newberry in 1873 in Luton.

Mary Ann's parents were James Cadwell & Mary Ann (surname unknown).  They had 7 children in total, that we have found so far, 6 born in Galway and 1 in Offley, Herts.  We have been unable to go any further back as we do not know which town/village to look at.

On the 1841 census James & Mary Ann are living in Offley with the youngest 3 children plus the oldest who was newly married.   The oldest 4 children all married in the UK.

We cannot find James/Mary Ann and the youngest 3 children on any further census return.  Another daughter, Amelia, turns up on the 1851 census with an illegitimate son.  He stays and eventually marries but Amelia disappears.

We would like to know where the family originated from and where those who disappread went to.  We assume that they all emigrated but do not know where to.

Thanks

Lynn C-K
