I am looking for the family of Eileen Mary Smith born Leeds 1909. Her brother Francis died in WW2, and his family subsequently lost touch with the Smith side of the family. I am not sure if she married and had children, and if so what became of them.
Their father James William Smith(born 1880) married Margaret Ann Hughes in 1906 (leeds). I have found him in the 1881 census, but he (along with his father James) disappears from the records until 1906 (marriage). Has anyone any suggestions as to why this may be the case. his mother (Mary) and his siblings are still listed in the 1891 census. I would be interested if anyone has any information on these individuals (Thomas 1873/4, Esther 1876 and Peter Smith 1879)
Many thanks

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Dating the Mystery Lady-Complete
« on: Tuesday 14 June 11 09:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

Here is another of my collection of photos I would like help with in dating.

I have not a clue who this might be, but with an approximate date I am hoping that at some stage I can slot her in to my family tree.

I will dig out the original and see if the back has more information (see, I'm learning), and if it is relevant I will post it.

Thanks

I have no idea who this boy is or when the photo was taken. The only clue I have is the name of the Photographers? I assume on the back. I have tried a search for the name, but with no joy. Can anyone help with this one?
Thanks

I'm on a role with the wedding photos. I seem to have a lot of them, but they are great for putting faces to names even if you only have a vague idea who they are.

I imagine that because the 'bride' is not in a traditional white dress, it will be easier to date by those in the know. At a guess would this be around WW1, or am I completely out?

Many thanks

I was recently sent a copy of this photo. I know the id of one of the people, but I don't know when it was taken. I have 2 possible dates, 1917 and 1925. Dating this photo will help me name the rest of the people in the group.
For those who like restoring photos, I would love this photo to be restored. This one is definitely for framing.

Many Thanks

I have a rough idea who these people are, but which brother is which I don't know. Is it possible to date these photos, both to confirm they are who I think they are, and also to hopefully determine which is which.

Hint? 1930s or 40s

Thanks

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / What is this surname.

I keep looking at this name, but I can't decide whether or not the first letter(s) are an H or an FL or even something entirely different.  I would appreciate it if someone could give me an opinion.

Thanks

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / 3 little rascals to date
« on: Tuesday 07 June 11 12:27 BST (UK)  »
I have 3 questions about this photo.

Firstly, can anyone date this photo to the nearest decade. The photo has a glossy sheen to it, and it is in the form of a post card if that helps

Secondly, I understand that during the Victorian times and even later, young boys were dressed in dresses. Do you think this is a picture of 3 girls, or could possibly 2 of the children be boys?

And last but not least, the picture is looking a bit worst for wear, would anyone be kind enough to restore it to its former glory, so that I can frame them for posterity.

Many thanks

Has anyone any ideas how I would set about dating a large number of photographs. They are mainly of ancestors/family members who I have only a vague idea who they might be. Dating these photos will go some way to identifying these people. In the past I have been grateful for the help the various Rootschatters have given me in this task, but there are 200+ photos, so too many to post in such a short space of time. I could start a topic all of my own with this number. Does anyone know of any museums/organisations who could help?

Many thanks
