Occupation Interests / Mariners in 1911 UK Census
« on: Tuesday 13 January 09 09:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I found my relatives last night on the newly released UK 1911 census. The head of the household was, however, not present on census night. He was a sailor. I wonder does anyone know how to look specifically for those at sea in the census?

The census is, however, not complete and is missing "royal navy" and "military overseas" so I am wondering if merchant shipping might have fallen into one of these categories?

Can anyone advise?

Wexford / South Wexford Deaths
« on: Tuesday 27 May 08 18:04 BST (UK)  »
Dear fellow researchers,

I have posted the complete set of Bridgetown death records from 1864 to March 1866 at the following URL...

http://www.kilmoregenealogy.com/South_Wexford_Genealogy.htm

It comprises 308 death records, recorded for civil registration purposes. As you may know, 1864 is the earliest year of Irish civil registration. I hope this is of use to many of you out there.

Wexford / Kilmore Ancestors
« on: Friday 11 April 08 18:38 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

This is to let you know that I have just uploaded the complete baptisms, from 1828-1854, to my Kilmore Genealogy website.

The records, comprising 1,713 births, span the famine period and are interesting also as Kilmore is one of the few parishes that actually increased in numbers during the famine period.  The records label certain families as "strollers" - thought to represent persons of no fixed abode who happened to have their children in Kilmore.

Anyway, Kilmore Genealogy is a free site, so I invite you all to check for long lost ancestors on...

Donegal / Donegal Wills
« on: Monday 14 January 08 17:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Just to let you know that many Donegal wills are held in the PRONI in Northern Ireland. In the past I have obtained copies of around 6 wills, pertaining to my Dungloe ancestors, from the 1870's onwards.

Obviously after independence Donegal wills were no longer probate in the 6 counties but many Donegal wills, up until 1922, are still held at PRONI.

The index to all wills has recently been put on line and can be searched for free ...

http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/search_the_archives/will_calendars/wills_search.htm

Most exciting of all is the PRONI's plan to put images of all wills on line in the near future.

Happy Hunting!
