Can anyone pinpoint please the couples' movements in mid 1860s especially the marriage date and location of Andrew born Scotland and May born Canada ?

1880 census and FreeBMD show a daughter Mary May born 1865 in London, but 1880 census and many Ancestry trees suggest a daughter Ellen born c1860 Pennsylvania - though 1861 Canadian census shows single May Finlayson living in birthplace Châteauguay.

Have found much about them and their issue subsequent to marriage in censuses etc as well as newspaper articles about his eventual suicide and her inheritance of brother's fortune but their marriage date and location have eluded me.

Wigtownshire / Helen Mary Drynan (née Smith) burial.

Helen died 27 Sep 1861 at Newton Stewart and I'm wondering in which of the cemeteries she would have been interred. She was living in Main Street earlier in the year. Clachan and the Old Kirkyard seem the options but there is some overlap in dates covered.

Ayrshire / Church of Scotland, Parish Church of Kilmarnock - name of church?
« on: Wednesday 07 April 21 12:11 BST (UK)  »
There is no indication with the baptismal entry of an ancestor from 1800 on ScotlandsPeople of the name of the church, but its seems (from Ancestry) that it is recorded on LDS film 1041386 as Church of Scotland, Parish Church of Kilmarnock.

Where was that church and the name?

Happy New Year fellow posters :).

Would anyone with a copy of the above be prepared to PM the article on Peter Tait which I have seen mentioned in an article about folks who migrated to Tobago?

Thank you, Macharskin.

Wigtownshire / James Griffin fiscal of Wigtown died 1776
« on: Thursday 18 January 18 20:48 GMT (UK)  »
The Wigtown Burgh minutes of 19 October 1776 record the recent passing of James Griffin and the necessity to immediately appoint a successor to the office of Fiscal.

Does anyone have any further information on James or has a connection to him?

Wigtownshire / Dumfries and Galloway Standard 1800-1949

I thought I would mention for those who are unaware, the British Newspaper Archive mentioned in the Resources page - a subscription site, can be accessed gratis from some local libraries.

This is a link to the Dumfries & Galloway Standard 1800-1949 (2182 issues) on the BNA pay site.

http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/results?place=dumfries%2c%20dumfriesshire%2c%20scotland&sortorder=dayearly

It is possible to search here and find out if there are any articles that interest you - ahead of going to your library!

Two tips:
1. The search engine uses OCR, therefore as these articles predate Times New Roman, many words appear odd and incomplete - but generally you will work out the gist of the entry.
2.  Like with any search don't be overly prescriptive. I invariably go to Advance Search and only type my words into the "The Phrase" box otherwise you can get hundreds of irrelevant entries.

Wigtownshire / Innkeeper Charles COID of Penninghame.
« on: Tuesday 02 December 14 20:11 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find the death records for Charles bc 1786 Sorbie and his wife Barbara (Dinnel aka Donald) bc 1784 Kirkinner. They appear in the 1861 census aged 75 and 77 respectively, but not in the 1871 census, suggesting they have both died by then.

ScotlandsPeople has one death, an older Charles Coid who was a Mochrum Weaver. Does anyone have any information about their demise?

Further question; does anyone know the name of the inn they might have occupied in Wigtown Row, now Queen's Street, Newton Stewart? I found Charles mentioned in several Trade directories in Wigtown Library earlier in the year, but no name.

Any advice or steer would be much appreciated.

I have just been listening to a recording I made of the BBC radio programme broadcast over 30 years ago.

Can anyone tell me when it was broadcast?
