Information required by Fraud alert/Internet headers - 16.6.2006
Fraud alert cannot take any action against any 419, fraud attacks or scams that you receive by email if when you forward the original email to us you do not include the email routing headers (the details of the electronic letter boxes it goes through). Please find below details of how to obtain these headers from your emails.
Any emails sent to us without the routing headers cannot be actioned.
Please follow these instructions for:

Open the message
Click View and then Options
The Internet headers are in the box at the bottom of the screen
Copy and paste the header and email content into a new email addressed to

Outlook Express for Windows
Leave the mail unopened in your in-box
Right click on the mail
Choose Properties
Click on the Details tab at the top of the popup box
Click Message Source
Copy the contents of the new window and paste it into a new email addressed to
fraud.alert@met.police.uk Back to top.
Outlook Express for Macintosh
Leave the mail unopened in your in-box
Click View
Click Source
Select All by using Command + a
Copy by using Command + c
Paste the header (Command + v) into a new email addressed to
fraud.alert@met.police.uk Back to top.
Netscape Messenger
Click View from the menu items
Click Headers
Click All
All messages you view will show the whole header
Copy the header and email content
Paste the header and email content into a new email addressed to
fraud.alert@met.police.uk Back to top.
MSN Hotmail
The full routing information is displayed in a message when the message header is set to Full.
Leave the email opened in your in-box
On the Options <javascript:TakeMeThere(L_Link_Address)> page, click Mail Display Settings under Additional Options
Under Message Headers, click Full, and then click OK
The email with expanded header information is now ready for forwarding

If you believe you might be being set up as a target for fraud or have been a victim of this type of fraud and need advice contact your local police station. If you are a resident in Greater London area this link will provide details of your local police station. If you are resident outside the London area, the following link will provide you with details of your local force website from which you can obtain details of your local police station.
If you think you have information that might prevent or provide intelligence on this type of crime, or you become the potential victim of another type of fraud that we are not aware please advise the Fraud Alert team by e-mail. Please note that we will not specifically respond to emails, unless we have a need to clarify or seek further information from the sender.
