Cumberland / Georgina Brotherton, born Furness, COMPLETE
« on: Friday 12 March 21 10:51 GMT (UK)  »
Please see previous topic re Frederick Brotherton.

There is a record of birth for Georgina Brotherton 1886 Oct-Dec Barrow-in-Furness 8c 805; a quick turn around after Charlres Henry 3 Jan 1886 (Motherwell), but by no means impossible.  I have no maiden name for mother.  I have not found any other records, or entries in trees, or news articles, so this remains a mystery.

Any help much appreciated.

Cumberland / Frederick Brotherton buried Furness 1906 - COMPLETE
« on: Thursday 11 March 21 15:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hello.  I am seeking help with the burial of Frederick Brotherton on 18 Sep 1906, age 21 months, at Rampside, St Michael, which is near to Dalton-in-Furness, to see whether his parents were Charles and Mary Ann Brotherton.  (I have only seen a transcript on Findmypast.)

I am also looking for a corresponding birth or baptism record, which would be about the turn of the year 1903-1904.

Thanks

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Latin probate
« on: Thursday 09 February 17 16:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hello.  I am hoping someone can help me with the key information in this latin probate

I can't get the first word, which, presumably, is related to the day of the month in September 1649.  The previous record is in August and the next "Septo", presumably 7th, from which I infer the date of the Maria record is 1st-6th.

There is reference to Anna Dennis filia (daughter, start of 6th line) and I think I know who this was, but had not discovered her mother's name. If I am right Maria (Mary) was my direct ancestor.

I've looked at several resources and these help a bit, but I am still stumped.

Any help appreciated.

Best wishes, Dion.

Warwickshire / Onion, Catholic baptism, Birmingham Diocese
« on: Tuesday 25 October 16 09:16 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I am trying this in the hope that someone has access or knowledge of records for Black Ladies (St Mary, Brewood, Staffordshire - there is a similar request on staffs page) 1787-1844.

May be recorded as Onion or Onions.

In particular, I am looking for baptisms of:
Thomas Onion, about 1808 (could be as early as 1805);
Edward Onion, about 1806 (who I think were brothers); and
Sarah Onion (Thomas's aunt), about 1796.

Abode would probably be somewhere in the Bishops Wood or Horsebrook area, but I can't be certain.

I would also appreciate verification of a marriage:  Edward Onion to Jane Turner 26 Apr 1829.

Any help gratefully received.

Hello

I am hoping someone can help with baptism records for Brewood, specifically in the time when the chapel at Black Ladies was in use.  May be recorded as Onion or Onions.

Cheshire / Priscilla Evans Great Boughton 1838
« on: Tuesday 20 September 16 07:30 BST (UK)  »
Hello.  Trying to find baptism Priscilla Evans, birth registered Great Boughton Apr-Jun 1838 - 1851 census says born Chester.  Parents William and Priscilla.  William a boatman.  Previous child Edward baptised Steam Mill Street Primitive Methodist 25 May 1836, abode "canal bank".  Being boat family could be en route to Wombourne, Staffs (or elsewhere, but seems sensible to begin with Chester area), where they appear in 1841 census.
Help appreciated.

Lincolnshire / Mary Shillcock Donnington 1734
« on: Wednesday 10 August 16 16:09 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I have baptism of John Greatrix in 1777 at Longdon, near Lichfield, Staffordshire, of John son of John Greatrix and Mary daughter of Larans Silcock.

Only probable I can find is on FamilySearch and FreeREG:  baptism Mary 30 June 1734, St Mary and the Holy Rood, Donnington-in-Holland, Lincolnshire, father Laurance Shillcock, mother Alice.

Has anyone access to original or image?

Thanks

Staffordshire / John Greatrex Longdon baptism
« on: Wednesday 10 August 16 15:43 BST (UK)  »
Hello

FamilySearch and the England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975, both record baptism of John Greatrix baptised Longdon 16 Jan 1747.  Findmypast has images of the parish register, but in Jan 1747 there is no such event.  Presumably, I must proceed on the basis that it does not exist?

Staffordshire / William Eagles 1790-ish Tipton-Sedgley-Wolverhampton?
« on: Thursday 14 January 16 09:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hello!  Sorry this is a bit long-winded, but please bear with me.

I'm trying to find a baptism record for William Eagle or Eagles.  In 1841 he was at Low Green, Tipton.  His wife was Phoebe, formerly Thornton, whom he had married in 1818 at Sedgley.  William's age was given as 45, but this appears to be rounded, so the target period is about 1791-1796, though he could have been baptised much later than the usual few months.  It appears he died in 1848, but his widow lived on to 1876.

Using Freereg, Findmypast, Familysearch and the other place, I find only one possible record:  9 Apr 1798, St Peter & St Paul, Wolverhampton, parents Seth and Sara.  Both Seth and Sara were buried at St Peter, Wolverhampton (same place?) in 1839 and early 1841 respectively, so no connection can be made through censuses.  Is the absence online of any other baptism in this case evidence of absence?

The only connection I can find is that Seth & Sara (whose maiden name I think was Ross) had a daughter Mary bapstised 1792 and the godparents were William Eagle (brother?) and Mary Ross (mother's sister?).  Mary Ross was also godparent to another son, Joseph, and Winefred Ross to son Thomas.  The coincidences are attractive, but it would be good to have something more solid.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Dion
