Northumberland / 1841 Census - meaning of "inmate" pls
« on: Monday 02 March 09 05:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Listers

In the 1841 census in Newburn Parish I have a family and mother and children are listed as "inmate".
I am aware that this term can be used for people in the workhouse, however, this family appear to be living with another family member who is listed as "widow", and appear to be living in a normal dwelling.

Ref: HO/107/823/9 - 19. on the bottom of right hand page - Margaret Chapman, Mary Scott and children
The print is very feint but still legible.

I would appreciate any comments on the above.

Durham / Pls help with my brick wall - Scott/Bedlington,Walbottle,Newburn,Winlaton
« on: Friday 03 October 08 07:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi Listers

I am trying to"smash" my Scott brick wall!!

I would like to hear from any listers who have an interest in the following (this is to assist in my process of elimination):

Robert Scott c1800/1810 Walbottle/Newburn

Thomas Scott c1844 Bedlington
in the following census: 1851 Winlaton, 1861 to 1901 Crawcrook.

Marriage of Robert Scott (father William) widower and Margaret Robinson spinster (father Thomas) both of Shotten Colliery
at St Mary the Virgin Easington, 8th February 1845.

Marriage of William Scott and Mary Wheatley
5 June 1802, Newburn.

Should any lister want a challenge I would be more than happy to hear from them, have a mound of information but alas still cannot find Thomas Scott c1844 birth or anything else except census!!!

Have also posted this on the Northumberland board.

Heres hoping

Whilst trawling through the St Cuthberts, Pontop Hill, films (in Latin), I came across the following which mentions my family:

"List of communicants of Pontop Congregation 1804-5

Thos Shippen
Steph Shippen
Mary Shippen"

I would be most grateful if some kind person can tell me what "List of communicants" means??

Many thanks
Dorothy

Northumberland / Newcastle Local Studies Library - Hexham Parish look up Pls
« on: Saturday 21 June 08 08:18 BST (UK)  »
It is my understanding that Newcastle Local Studies Library has some records of Hexham Parish baptisms.

I was wondering if any lister is planning a visit to the Library and, if so, would be good enough to have a look and see if there is a record for the following:

Baptism
Thomas Shippen/on/ing
c1824

his place of birth on census is given as Stublick, which I believe would be in Hexham Parish

Many thanks

Dorothy

I would be most grateful if some kind person can look up the Evening Chronicle and see if there is a death notice for:

John Mitchinson - died 8th February 1915 at Chopwell aged 84 years

Many thanks

My Shippen/Shippon family list Stublick, Low Stublick and Greenridge (I believe these are near Hexham) as their places of birth. I would be really grateful if some kind person can tell me in which Parish I am likely to find the baptism records.

I have located one of the family baptisms in 1831 at Allendale on a family history film, but  unfortunately cannot locate any of the others.

I am looking for:
Elizabeth Shippon c1822
Thomas Shippon c1824
Richard Shippon c1827
Mary Shippon c1826
James Shippon c1834
Hannah Shippon c1836

Sarah Shippon c1831 was baptised at Allendale.

Many thanks

Northumberland / Non Conformist Baptism - Newburn
« on: Saturday 26 January 08 04:11 GMT (UK)  »
I have been searching, without any luck, for baptisms in the Newburn Parish Records for my Scott family. I am coming to the conclusion that they may not have belonged to the Church of England.

Can some kind lister tell me where I would find baptisms for non-conformists (by this I mean Presbyterian, Methodist, etc) living in the Newburn Parish in the early 1800's.

Many thanks :)
