Cornwall / Looking for descendents of Frederick WILCE.
« on: Tuesday 31 August 10 21:31 BST (UK)  »
I have a medal awarded to Frederick Wilce, born 1866 in Falmouth. It was awarded for long service and good conduct on the HMS Empress of India. Not sure of the date but it has a bust of young Victoria on the back.

Does anyone know if it is possible to trace any descendents of him whom I could pass this medal onto as i'm sure it would be of interest to them.

The only other writting on the medal is "P.O 2nd CL"

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

World War Two / 61st reconnaissance regiment.
« on: Saturday 31 January 09 13:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
My grandad, Cecil George Huzzey, was in the 61st reconnaissance regiment during ww2. This regiment was part of the 50TH (TT) NORTHUMBRIAN DIVISION which landed on Gold Beach on D Day.

I wonder if anyone knows where I could find out which Squadron he was in within the 61st reconnaissance regiment? His Captain was Captain Herbert Snook who was killed in action in early 1945.

Many Thanks for your time,

Paul. Bristol

Gloucestershire / Can't get back before 1861!
« on: Wednesday 22 October 08 14:46 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can help?

I have traced my family back to Samuel Churchill who was born in 1834 in Bristol. His trade was given in the 1861 census as Pawnbroker and Importer of musical instruments. At this time he was living with his brother, William, and his mother Martha, a widow.

My problem is that I can't trace any of the family before 1861 so it seems I have hit a brick wall.

If anyone can suggest a solution to this problem I would be very greatful.

Many Thanks, Paul Hill.    Bristol

Hi,
Does anyone knoe if the parish records for Mangotsfield are on line?

I am looking for the parents of a Thomas Smith, born about 1814 in St George, Bristol.

All I know is that Thomas' mother was named Mary and was born in Mangotsfield about 1773.

Many Thanks for your help.

Does anyone know where I can find the inmate records for Ilchester gaol?

One of my ancestors, John Hill, was in the gaol in 1823 and I would like to know what he was in for.

I am looking for a marriage between  a Clarke and a Nicholls in the Barnsaple district before 1913.

Caroline Marie Clarke was born in Coombe Martin in the first quarter of 1913.
Her mothers maiden name is given as Nicholls but I can find no record of her parents marriage.

Can anyone help me track down these elusive Parents.

Many Thanks, Paul.

Gloucestershire / Bristol Newspapers in 1914?
« on: Thursday 17 January 08 18:13 GMT (UK)  »
My Great Great Grandfather, James Wotherspoon Brown, died on 1st February 1914 in Bristol.

I wonder if anyone knows which newspapers were about at the time within Bristol which would have carried a family anouncement of the death?

The Bristol Evening post is around now but i'm not sure if it went by the same name back then.

Many Thanks, Paul Hill. Bristol

Australia / Scotland to Australia
« on: Monday 14 January 08 12:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

My GGG grandmother's maiden name was Margaret Barr. She was born in Scotland about 1818.

I don't know anything about her family but I did find a photograph in an old album with a picture of "david Barr". The photographers stamp on the back was "J. Weller. Maryborough, Victoria, Australia".

I have no idea how old the photo is or what relation he was to Margaret. The photographic number on the back is 6816.

Does anyone have a record of a David Barr moving from Scotland to Australia in the 1800s??

Many Thanks. Paul.
