Sutherland / Catherine Morrison, Eddrachillis
« on: Sunday 31 May 15 12:53 BST (UK)  »
I have been searching for my grandmothers sister Catherine for years and finally found her.  The problem was poor transcription on Ancestry.  This is what I now know and if anyone can add to it I would be grateful.

She married a Thomas Timmons from Ireland in Manhattan in 1898 and two of her children were living with her sister Bella Morrison in Manhattan in the 1910 census.  Their names were Edward Donald Timmons and Johanna Timmons.  Catherine may have still been alive at this stage but I cannot find them so if anyone has access to records for census or death at this period I would ask them to check on Catherine and her husband.

Canada / William Morrison and Kate Macleod
« on: Tuesday 28 June 11 18:26 BST (UK)  »
My great uncle William (brother of my granny Mary Morrison) born in 1871 and emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1907 with his wife Kate, had a family there and worked on the railways.  He lied about his age in order to enlist in the First World War with the Canadian Expeditionary Force making himself 38 instead of the actual 45.  He was killed in 1916.

His son Alex b 1897 survived the war and in addition he had Joan (Johan), Donald, Angus and Nina or Williamina in 1907.  I have visited the memorial with his name on it to the dead railwaymen of Toronto in the Old City Hall.

However, I have never been able to track down any of his descendants and know nothing about how they coped after his death or what happened to his wife Kate.

We do have other cousins in Toronto from William's youngest brother Adam and they too knew nothing of William and his family.  I would love if anyone of his descendants could get in touch and tell us their story.

Inverness / Fleming, Inverness, Sutherland, Ireland
« on: Sunday 29 May 11 17:48 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to link up the different strands of the Flemings to see if I can find a birth family for my gt gt grandfather Alexander Fleming of Fanagmore, Sutherland.  He was a shepherd born about 1786 and died 1885.  The only marriage in the area was between John Fleming and Kethreen McKenzie in 1789 in Inverness and I believe they were his parents and that he was actually born in 1790 as their eldest child.  I can't prove it yet.  His death cert at a very old age was signed by his daughter who was also old and a Gaelic speaker and she got the info wrong.

So far I have found a William Fleming in Inverness whose death cert gives them as his parents and a John Fleming born in Northern Ireland and died in the US whose parents are also given as John and Kethreen.  Possibly Alexander's two brothers.  There is a very good family history for Kethreen but nothing available for John.

Anyone out there researching these Flemings?

Devon / Louis Jake DUERDEN
« on: Wednesday 15 December 10 13:06 GMT (UK)  »
Louis A Duerden died in Torbay Devon in 2006.  Jake was a nickname but someone included it in his death certificate.  He was married to my Aunt Alice Maclaine but they had spllit up about 50 years earlier and she divorced him and married someone else.  I would very much like any information on him to pass on to my two cousins, his sons.

I believe he was born in Wakefield on 12 Nov 1927 but don't know the names and details of his parents.

Can you help?

Armed Forces / Army Pensioners pre WW1
« on: Tuesday 05 October 10 12:00 BST (UK)  »
My great grandfather John Kyle, born in Ireland around 1843 was in receipt of an army pension at least from 1882 until his death in 1922 in Glasgow, Scotland.

I have searched through the National Archives online information but have found nothing.  I would like more information on his army career and feel that the pension trail would be the best bet.

Any ideas how I can access this information?

Argyllshire / Fergusons from Skye
« on: Sunday 04 July 10 15:44 BST (UK)  »
My ancestors were Maclaines from Mull and Macdonalds from Sleat in Skye.  My great grandfather Allan Maclaine had a sister Sarah who married John Ferguson a boat builder who came down to Govan shipyards to work.  It is clear from the census and other material I have that Sarah was the glue which bound this family and I would love to know what happened to her children - John, Christina, Fergus and Flora.

Canada / William Morrison and Kate Macleod
« on: Wednesday 18 November 09 18:50 GMT (UK)  »
Wm Morrison b 1871 in Kinlochbervie, Sutherland, Scotland (he often lied about his age making himself much younger) and his wife Kate Macleod from the same area married in Edinburgh in 1897.  They had 5 children that I know of Alex 1897, Johan 1898, Donald 1901, Angus 1902 and Nina 1907 and emigrated to Toronto, Canada sometime between 1901 and 1911 when they appear in the Census.

William again lied about his age and joined the 58th Battalion CEF and was killed in 1916 in France.  I would like to know what happened to his widow and children.  William was my grandmother's eldest brother and no one in the family seems to know anything about him.

Thanks Marion

Canada / Marion Morrison b 1884 Sutherland
« on: Thursday 05 November 09 14:36 GMT (UK)  »
My great aunt Marion Morrison was born in Badcall, Sutherland to Donald Morrison and Johan Fraser.  She emigrated to Canada in 1908 and married Angus Smith of Fort Francis, Ontario, Canada in 1915.  If her grand-children would like her history in Scotland I have a lot of information going back to 1750 and also about her 12 siblings.  Marion was my grandmother's youngest sister and I met her in 1963 when she made her first and only trip back to Scotland.

I am looking for the descendants of my great aunt Marion Morrison who married Angus Smith of Fort Francis, Ontario, Canada in 1915.  I know she had 5 children and some of her grand-children may wish to have a family history from me of her ancestors and her 12 siblings.  Marion was my grandmother's youngest sister.
