Can anyone identify the location of this photograph of Bert, please? Bert lived in Sheffield for several years, so could that be it?

Lancashire / Fishwick family problems
« on: Tuesday 14 November 17 15:50 GMT (UK)  »
I am helping a colleague research her family tree, and her family seems to be very elusive. William George Fishwick born to John and Mary (nee Dooley) in 1852 in Manchester is with his family in 1861 (Oswald Street, Manchester), and then goes missing until his death in 1892 (occupation picture frame maker). If I have the right man he married Mary Ellen Disley in 1874, but I can't find them or their children (Eliza Ann and Mary Ellen) in censuses - the girls were somewhere, because they married in 1895 and 1904 respectively.

Also where were John and Mary Fishwick in 1871? I believe they both died later in the 1870s, so they should be somewhere. The 1861 census for them is http://www.rootschat.com/links/01l20/

Can anyone help, please? I am not used to research in Lancashire (although I am aware of Lancs opc and Lancs BMD), and don't have a general picture of the geography in my mind, which doesn't help with tracing difficult people.

Thanks for looking.

Can anyone make out the birthplace here, please? I think the county is Cardigan, but what is the town/village?

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Duntisbourne Abbots BTs
« on: Wednesday 18 March 15 17:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Victor,

I've been following the Pitman family in Duntisbourne Abbots, but the earliest register on Ancestry begins in 1683. According to Glos Archives website this is the earliest register they have, but I've found a couple of earlier Pitman records on familysearch, so I imagine they come from BTs. If you could check the pre-1683 BTs for me I'd be very grateful (familysearch has a 1607 baptism and a 1640 marriage, but I hope there will be a burial or two to add to those).

Another question from the Glos parish registers on Ancestry. The fourth line from the bottom on the left-hand page here http://www.rootschat.com/links/01exu/ has the burial of the son of someone Pyttman, but I can't work out her first name. Also, I think it names the father - is it Michael something?

Can anyone help, please?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Another Gloucester will
« on: Monday 09 March 15 18:07 GMT (UK)  »
I'm still looking for clues to the John Pytman mentioned in Henry Pytttman's will  http://www.rootschat.com/links/01ewm/. Looking at the will of Oliffe Dobles (or is it Dobbs?) from 1639, he's mentioned several times (starting about about twelve lines down on this page): http://www.rootschat.com/links/01ewl/. I think it's likely to be the same person, as Oliffe was Henry's daughter. I'm struggling to do much more than read the names on this one, so if you can pick out any clues to John's relationship to Oliffe, his occupation, etc, I should be very grateful.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Henry Pyttman's will - 1612
« on: Monday 09 March 15 16:39 GMT (UK)  »
From Ancestry I have the 1612 will of Henry Pyttman  http://www.rootschat.com/links/01ewk/  and most of the names mentioned fit with what I know of the family. But John Pytman is mentioned just over half way down, and I am looking for clues to his identity. Can anyone see anything which gives (or suggests) his relationship to Henry, where he lives, or his his occupation, please?

I need more help with the Glos registers on Ancestry, please. I'm in no doubt that the groom in the first marriage here http://www.rootschat.com/links/01ew8/ is a Pittman, but what his his first name, and who is he marrying?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Joseph's wife - 1718
« on: Thursday 26 February 15 17:50 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to work out the first name of Joseph Pitman's wife in this 1718 marriage:  http://www.rootschat.com/links/01eu2/ Ancestry has it transcribed as Mary, but surely there's an extra letter? I think I may have her burial, but that rather depends on what her first name is. Ideas please.
