Hi - Would anyone be able to date this photograph for me please. Looking at the dress code of other individuals in the photograph my guess is it was taken around the 50`s or 60`s. I am not sure about his age either. He looks to be around mid to late 60`s but once again, I am not an expert which is why I am posting it here.
I can tell you that the photograph was taken on East Parade, Sussex and I have compared it to a modern photograph and most features still exist right down to the Pagoda that he is standing in front of.
Please could you also try to decipher what the writing on his badge means please ? I am not sure if it denotes some kind of school or organisation that he might be involved in and I am getting very frustrated with the whole thing.
Hopefully you guys can shed some light on this for me.
Thank you everyone

Sussex Lookup Requests / Louisa Stimson Help Please
« on: Wednesday 29 June 11 14:41 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone here be able to and interested in visiting East Sussex Records Office for me please ? I am hoping that in the Public Assistance Institution Records for Battle Hospital there will be references to the Stimson name such as my wifes Great Grandmother Louisa Stimson. We are unable to find any form of birth record for her despite having her accurate birth date of 20th April 1902.
We do know however that on one of her childrens birth certificates that she was in fact residing at Stone House just off North Trade Road in Battle and working as a domestic servant at Clarence House in Chandler Road in Bexhill, Sussex.
She had three children which we suspect are all born in the old hospital but have no way of finding out who their father is as the fathers details were not entered onto the birth certificates.
I have contacted orphanages, foundling hospitals etc to locate anything on this lady but we draw a complete blank every time. I have scoured the censuses including the 1911 census when she would have been aged 9 but to absolutely no avail. I have tried various surname spellings also such as STIMPSON, SIMSON, SIMPSON but once again to no avail.
I have been searching for this lady for around six years and it is now driving me mad as we have photgraphs of her with her children etc as well as a birth date but it is frustrating. I do know that she dies in Hastings Hospital in 1984 following a horrific car crash on London Road where she also lived at the time bu the coroners report and death certificate yield no clues as to her origins or parentage.
This is the last hope I have of being able to find anything on her.
The Stonehouse buildings still exist.
They were opened in 1834 as Battle Workhouse.
It became a cottage hospital before 1929 which is when Louisa would have been there.
It then became Battle Public Assistance Institution from 1930 before becoming a hospital for geriatric patients in 1949 but this closed in the 1990`s.
It is now a massive apartment complex called Frederick Thatcher Place, named after the gentleman who had originally designed the original workhouse.
I have had a look through A2A archives and there are many records available for the times when Louisa would have been living there.
Can someone please help me with this very tricky and very frustrating conundrum ?
I would be very grateful indeed and am willing to pay to cover any fees or costs as travelling to Sussex from here in Wales would be very difficult for me.
Thank you everyone.

;D  Hi Everyone - I am looking for anyone researching the BARNETT family who moved up from Pembrokeshire to the Neath, Port Talbot, Cwmavon and Merthyr areas of Wales.
My wifes mum was a BARNETT before marriage and is sadly no longer with us and we are trying to establish a substantial family tree for the rest of the family.
So far our tree starts with William BARNETT b. 1802 in Carew, Pembrokeshire and he was married to Mary HARTS.
They had 8 children (That we know of) : John, Rebeccah, Elizabeth, Jane, Isaac, Mary, William and Joseph.
Their son William married Elizabeth ??? and they had 10 children : Mary Ann, Evan Thomas, William, John Isaac, Elizabeth Edith, Edwin, George Henry, Martha Jane, Agnes and Abraham R.
Their other son Joseph married Margaret O`Bryant and they had 5 children : William G, Seth, Mary E, Margaret A and Joseph J.
Their son Seth married Sarah Jane Rees and had two children : Edward Harold and Seth
Edward Harold married Margaret Casley and had 4 children : Cyril, Desmond, Brian and Albert
Cyril married Blodwen Thomas and had 3 children : Carole, Irene and Avril
Carole was my wifes mum !
Hope all of this makes some sense to someone and I would love to hear from you !

Ireland / HIRE Family Help !
« on: Wednesday 26 September 07 10:05 BST (UK)  »
;D Hi Everyone - I am researching the HIRE family of which I am a direct descendant !
I am living in Wales and have an extensive collection of HIRE family information extending from Pembrokeshire to Halifax, Novas Scotia.
I am trying to work backwards from Pembrokeshire now as I have received written information stating that the HIRE family first arrived in Pembrokeshire from Ireland in 1676 and I would like to try and confirm this but I am now unsure of where to turn !
Are there any HIRE family members left in Ireland and if so I would love to get in touch.
As I said.....I have tons and tons of stuff to share so don`t miss out on ME `cos I`m a little goldmine for HIRE genealogy !!
Speak soon
Anthony
