Sussex Lookup Requests / Sussex Marriage Index Lookup please
« on: Saturday 27 August 05 12:09 BST (UK)  »
My Poate/Poat/Pote and Whittington/Whitington families come from Upwaltham in the Westhampnett district.
I have used the familysearch.org IGI with (unusually for my researches) excellent results  and found -
Jesse Whittington b Chilgrove c1767 &
Sarah (nee Spooner) "  b unknown(but Kirdford 1776) c1771 in the 1851 census in Eastdean

They married 1794 in Kirdford and her father was Henry Spooner mother Eliz'th. Is there a Henry Spooner marriage recorded in the area?
There was another Jesse Whitington marriage to Anne - have you dates of that marriage possibly in Petworth?

I'm trying to sort out who was who so any help would be gratefully received. Jill

Some of you will recognise my
Alexander McMillan b Scotland Helensburgh

I have just discovered a message dated 19Dec 2001 on genforum.com which asks for info about Alexander's family.
It says ' Alex (of Helensburgh) died in a train crash with his wife and an uncle took the family house. The 4chn walked to England - Ann, William, Alexander and another brother.
I found Ann (same source) married to William Francis in Hammersmith 1863 and in the 1871 census found my Alexander with Annie Francis his sister.
I'm off to Glasgow with my new information and although I've booked my 1st three nights in Glasgow has anyone info about B&Bs in Dunbartonshire? Glasgow prices for 1 are heavy and I can't find accommodation in Dunbartonshire. Jill

« on: Tuesday 31 May 05 09:21 BST (UK)  »
My grandmother was born in Newry Co Down in  1881 and her parents were married in NewtownHamilton in 1856.
There may be a connection with Monaghan which although likely isn't proven.
One of her brothers settled in Edinborough, married and had 2 chn.
Has anyone else a connection with this family? Jill

The names involved are Cuthbertson, Morgan, Dickie and Colquhoun.

Dunbartonshire / Looks like 'Ellensborough'
« on: Saturday 14 May 05 09:57 BST (UK)  »
In the 1881 census in England my gt grandfather has put born Scotland Ellensborough? The Ellen is clear but the middle is difficult and ends with ough.
In the 1891 census in England his birth is Scotland, Dunbarton.
Is 'Ellensborough' part of Dunbarton? I've checked the parishes of Dunbartonshire and it hasn't appeared there.

His name was Alexander Stuart McMillan b c1844 - father (you've guessed)  Alexander McMillan -fisherman.

I would appreciate any assistance. Jill
