Could someone kindly do a census look up for me in the Bedwelty area of Monmouthsire for the following people please. I have made the people I am seeking out in bold
They will obviously be 10 years younger in 1861 ( sorry for stating the obvious)

As for the Matthew Davies you found in the 1881, he is also there in the 1871:  RG10/5321  Fol 66  Page 6    Dwelling:  Manmoel, Bedwellty

John Nicholas Jane      Head               41   widower
Rachael Davies            Housekeeper  49   widow
Ann Davies                   Daughter        20   single
Soloman Davies           Son                 17    single
Mary Susanah Davies  Daughter         14
MATTHEW DAVIES        Son                  11

Rachael Davies            Daughter            6
Benjamin Edwards       Boarder           48    single

The occupations and place of birth same as 1881, the younger children were all born in Tredegar.    All Rachael's children are enumerated as Davies.  The handwriting isn't clear on the actual record but it does look like Jane, not James for John Nicholas.

The other thought I had was that Matthew and Beatrices mother weren't married and as Matthew is hard to find I did a general search for Matthew Davies in Monmouthshire on the familysearch site and came up with this little gem

Household:

33 River Row  Bedwellty, Monmouth
John Nicholas JAMES Head M Male 48 b Gellygaer, Glamorgan, Platelayer
Rachel JAMES Wife M Female 60 b Pontypool, Monmouth
Matthew DAVIES Stepson U Male 21 b Tredegar, Monmouth Engine Tender
Rachel JAMES Daughter U Female 16 b Tredegar, Monmouth Domestic Servant At Home
Benjamin EDMONDS Lodger U Male 61 b Caerphilly, Glamorgan, Engine Tender

  RG11/5243/104  p 7

Rachel Davies remarried in 1871 to John Nicholas James as found on the 1881 census above.

I am seeking the name of her 1st husband and Matthew Davies father's name. I am presuming that he is still alive in the 1861 census as the youngest Davie Rachael was born c.1865 , although knowing my luck with this Davies family....lol

thanking you in advance

Would someone be kind enough to take a look for

Alfred Crashley JOHNSON in the above census please.

He was born on 3rd September 1815 and was christened on 24th Dec 1815 in St leonards, Shoreditch,Middlesex London

I believe his parents should be a Thomas Johnson and Elizabeth (no surname yet)

Alfred was married to an Elizabeth Coterill (1st marriage) Date of marriage unknown but before 1837

They had 4 children that I know of

James JOHNSON B: 27th July 1837 St Matthew, Bethnal Green Middlesex, London
Christened 4th September St Matthew, Bethnal Green Middlesex

Edward JOHNSON B: 29th May 1841 St Leonards, Shoreditch,

Emily Elizabeth JOHNSON B: 8th December 1851 St Leonards, Shoreditch ( My greatgreat grandmother)
Christened 11th January 1852  St Leonards Shoreditch

George JOHNSON B: 26th June 1854 St Leonards, Shoreditch
Christened: 26th December 1858 St Leonards, Shoreditch

At some point I believe Elizabeth either died or they divorced and Alfred Crashley Johnson married a Charlotte S BATT in the June qtr 1866 in Shoreditch.

I believe Alfred Died in the Shoreditch area in the December qtr 1890 at the age of 75

I am hoping the census checks will show and verify his parents names plus I'm hoping to find his 1st wife and children with him. I have located Alfred in the 1871 and 1881 census where his occupation is listed as Engineer in Elim Works and Engineer respectively. He is living with Charlotte, Emily & George in the 1871 census at 8 Myddleton Mews ? St James, Clerkenwell ( I could do with the folio/page no for this sighting please) and in 1881 there is just Alfred and Charlotte living at 55 Habberdashers St, RG11 0392/46 31

Many thanks in advance

Can anyone tell me if Bethnal green and St leonards are in the same area of London for registration purposes as I have two likely candidates for my great great grandfathers marriage. I'm wondering if he married twice but one entry says born Bethnal green and the other says St leonards. I'm totally confused.

Anyone who can enlighten me and further my education would help me along a great deal

with thanks in advance

Monmouthshire / Matthew DAVIES, Blaenavon/Ebbw Vale ?
« on: Thursday 30 December 04 20:38 GMT (UK)  »
My great Grandmother was called Beatrice Davies before her marriage in 1903 to Alfred William Thomson in St Pancras Middlesex. She was born in 1881 but I have been unable to obtain a correct birth certificate as yet. Her father was listed as Matthew Davies Occ: coalminer.

My mum seems to vaguely remember someone saying that Beatrice was welsh but lived all her life in London. I've searched census for Beatrice and her father in Middlesex but no signs of him. A search of freebmd showed up a matthew Davies born c 1850 in Blaenavon, Monmouthshire.

Can anyone help me with this wall that is rapidly appearing please? Anyone have a Matthew Davies in their family tree or anyone who remembers coming across a Matthew Davies and family any where? I'd be really greatful for any help in locating him.

thanks so much in advance

I have just recieved the marriage cert of my GGrandfather Alfred Thomson (lead glazier) and his Wife Beatrice Davies which took place in St pancras on 21st Sept 1903 in a registry Office. I can find David Thomson (aged 31) Alfreds Father listed at 45 Victor Road, St pancras in the 1881 census with his wife Emily E ( aged 28) and Daughters Elsie M Aged 5 and Agnes C aged 3 plus Alfred  W. aged 1 which is right as he was 23 when he married Beatrice in 1903. piece/folio is 0260/82 page 31 and area is Middlesex, London

ok here is my problem. I cant find David Thomson and family in any census after 1881! Alfred is listed as living at 6 egbert Place St pancras London at the time of his marriage and I know my ggrandfather Alfred died in Hendon,  London,  in 1967. Where did they go?

Beatrice Davies was 22 at the time of the marriage so birth year 1881. Her father is Matthew Davies born in Scotland ( not wales as I at first thought). I just can't find them any where. She is listed as living at 7 Mornington Place at time of her marriage to Alfred. They were married in a registery Office in St pancras, London on 21st Sept. 1903 and fathers were listed as having following occup.

David Thomson House painter and
Matthew Davies Coal miner

I really need a lead on these folks in 1891 and 1901. Can any one help me trace them or run a check on the addresses given for me please? I especially need to find Matthew and trace any siblings and mother for Beatrice.

Hi guys,
I've managed to get my front page uploaded and was wondering if someone could tell me what code I need to add to take the writing off the cover of the book I'm using as the background so that it looks as if it's been written on the page
