Completed Census Requests / 1871 Census Liverpool look up please
« on: Thursday 23 September 04 20:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for an Andrew Johnson with a Jane Johnson as a wife. Jane was born 1841/42 in Longtown Cumberland, as for Andrew I believe he was born in Liverpool. They have one child possibly two with them a John William Johnson born Everton 1868/69 and maybe a Maggie (Margaret) born 1871/72 she may have made it onto the census?. I have no idea as to where they would be so it is a longshot, and I do not have them on the 1881 census in Liverpool as John is with an aunt in Manchester and Maggie is in Cumberland with her grandad.

Thank you for any help

Hi

Probably being stupid here (my brain isn't working today at all!!), but how do you obtain a marriage licence as I have a few people who were married by licence, and what is on them?? also I have two who married in 1810 by licence would this give the fathers names as the entry does not??

Thanks

Completed Census Requests / BVRI (British vital Records Index) look up please
« on: Monday 19 July 04 15:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi

This is a hunch of mine, I have a Mary Eliza stubbs but no record of a birth or baptism anywhere, however I do have a Mary Eliza Biddulph Registered sept 1852 in Stoke T. If it is possible and the information is within the BVRI I would like the parents names (Quite skint at the moment you see and can't afford to buy the cert.  :'(), the father might just possibly be Joseph Stubbs! Mary Stubbs was born in Macclesfield according to the 1881 census, so could have been christened in either cheshire or stoke? I would be very grateful for any information on Mary as I can't seem to find her anywhere (I have put a post in census look up 1871 for Mary stubbs Kidsgrove).  (Oh btw I do however know that Mary Stubbs married Henry Darlington 1872!!)  ;D.

Thanks

Completed Census Requests / 1871 Staffordshire Lookup please

Hi

I can't remember if this has been posted before, and it's a long shot so here goes: I am looking for a Henry Darlington and a Mary Eliza Stubbs in Kidsgrove. Henry was born at any time between 1850 and 1854 in Kidsgrove, while Mary was born between 1850 and 1854 in Macclesfield (Their ages change so much through the census!! but on their marriage cert of 1872 he was 22 and she was 21). Henry's father was a James Darlington born c1825 and was a shoe maker, his mother was Alice. Mary's father was Joseph a labourer. Mary may also have a daughter with her Sarah Ann born 1870/1, who was Sarah Ann Darlington in 1881. Could Mary and Henry be living together before they married?  ???

Thanks

The Common Room / Sarah Ann Stubbs Help Please
« on: Thursday 15 July 04 14:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am trying to find out who the parents of Sarah Ann Stubbs born March quarter 1870 in Wolstanton are. Is there any way of finding out who they are without sending for the birth cert or going to Stoke as i'm low on funding!!!!!  :'(. She could have taken the name Darlington as I have a Sarah Ann Darlington for 1881 born in Kidsgrove living with Henry and Mary Darlington (who did not marry until 1872 and Mary's maiden name was Stubbs). I am assuming that the Sarah Ann Stubbs is the daughter as I cannot find any births for a Darlington around that time.  Any help would be appriciated  :)

Thank you

Family History Beginners Board / Marriages in Gretna
« on: Thursday 06 May 04 11:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have recently obtained a marriage certificate for a William Marriner and Margaret Bell for 1840 in Longtown Cumberland. Onit however, it states that they were married at Gretna, I know that many people got married there and then again in their own parish. What I would like to know is whether there are any records for Gretna marriages and where do I obtain them?. Also would the mothers name appear upon this certificate? (I am looking for the mother of Margaret Bell). Also what would the average time be for getting married at Gretna and then again in their own parish, is it possible that they were married for a few years before 1840?

Thank you

Corinne  :)
