Can anyone help with any suggestions?
I'm trying to establish whether the Susan Anscomb in the passenger list below, was the daughter of Allen Anscomb and Unknown, or William and Hannah Anscomb?
(Susan Anscomb was born in Cuckfield, according to a submitted record on the IGI, and in 1837 she married into a branch of the Dancy family who also emigrated from the same area to Pittsford, Monroe county, New York). After marrying, her husband and her were found living next door to a William Anscomb.Passenger list arriving in New York in 1827 travelling from England (Anscomb was misindexed as Auscomb):
Hannah Anscomb aged 46 F (Female) [born abt 1781]
William Anscomb aged 45 M (Male) [born abt 1782], Farmer. (His nearest matching baptism is in Wivelsfield, parents Allen and Elizabeth Anscomb - but baptism found only on Ancestry, not found on IGI)
Allen Anscomb aged 35 M (Male) [born abt 1792]
Allen Anscomb aged 18 M (Male) [born abt 1809] (occupation Mason on corresponding passnger record)
James Anscomb aged 16 M (Male) (occupation Farmer on corresponding passnger record) [poss baptism Brighton to Allen and a Sarah Anscomb in 1813]
Susan Auscomb aged 11 F (Female)
John Auscomb aged 8 M (Male)
Abraham Auscomb aged 6 M (Male) [born abt 1820, found with Hannah in 1850 in Pittsford]
Then there is another family, and then:
Allen Anscomb aged 65, Weaver, [born abt 1762]
Edward? Anscomb aged 19 Shoe Maker, (Male) [born abt 1808]
1850 United States Federal Census in Pittsford, Monroe, New York
Abram Anscom 30 born England, Labourer (Head of house presumably as listed first) [born abt 1820]
Catherine Anscom 25 born Scotland
Wm Anscom 6
Francis Anscom 4
Thomas Adamson 60, born Scotland, occ: Chandler [wife's father presumably as her maidenname was Adamson]
Hannah Anscom 69, born England abt 1781
What confuses matters though with this family, is that there seem to be baptism of a son Allen born to William and Hannah Anscomb in Wivelsfield in 1797, whereas the only marriage I can find of a William Anscomb to a Hannah does not take place until 1803, where Ardingly Parish Registers state "1803 Sep 28, William Anscomb of A. & Hannah Mason of Lindfield, at Lindfield" (see
http://www.archive.org/stream/parishregisterso00ardiuoft/parishregisterso00ardiuoft_djvu.txt )
Regarding the Allen Anscomb in the passenger list whose birth is approximately 1792 -
There is a baptism of an Allen Anscombe at Ardingly on 29 April 1787 to parents Allen and Elizabeth
but there is also a baptism of an Allen Anscombe in Wivelsfield on 19 March 1797 to parents William Anscomb and Hannah
If the Allen Anscomb travelling with them was not their son (then next probability is he was the brother of William), then what had happed to the Allen Anscomb, son of William and Hannah?
I'm wondering whether there were two couples called William and Hannah Anscomb about at the same time. Perhaps one at Lindfield or Cuckfield and the other at Wivelsfield.
