Durham / Newspaper Obits - DAVISON
« on: Tuesday 06 May 08 16:03 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I have had some good fortune with data from the Northumberland & Durham FHS which has identified my ggggg-grandfather:
George Davison of Blaydon - died April 1816 Swalwell and his son
James Davison of Swalwell - died 23rd April 1851 at Swalwell and buried at Whickham.
Would anyone know if there was a local newspaper which would have contained an obituary or funeral report on my ancestors.
Both were well respected community members.
George signed the application for a dissenting church meeting place in Swalwell in 1799.
James was a member of Crowleys Crew and had a headstone erected by fellow freemasons in appreciation of his character.
Many thanks
John Davison

Is anyone out there a member? I sent an e-mail a month ago to their shop with an enquiry about a publication in their catalogue but got no response.
I'd be interested in any views on this FHS.

I have found that my gggg-Grandfather James Davison b 1773 was a Freemason and member of the above Lodge.
Does anyone have any information on the history of the Lodge?

Northumberland / Census Location Identification
« on: Saturday 03 November 07 12:54 GMT (UK)  »
I thought I'd ask a question about my g.g.g.grandfather - George Hall. His 1851 census listing has been transcribed by Ancestry as Nelluen Hall, Northumberland. I cannot trace this and suspect a mistranscription. Snippet of census attached (HO 107 2393).
Does anyone recognise the location?
