Family History Beginners Board / Confused about a Birth Record
« on: Tuesday 09 April 24 08:59 BST (UK)  »
Hia folks, I had an Uncle by the name of Alexander Hannah (Alec? Alex? he died before I knew him) died in 1976 in Birmingham (UK) He married in 1963 (not sure if his Widow is still alive so I won't mention her) I have found Birth Records in other parts of the country for an Alexander Hannah around 1940, but can't seem to find anything in and around Birmingham.  He had a Son Alexander John McLaine Hannah (1964-2007) and a daughter (again whom I can't mention)

Shropshire / Stillborn baby possible registration query?
« on: Saturday 09 March 24 16:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Folks, I'm wondering if anyone else has had this predicament and can guide us in the right direction.  My parents had a full term stillborn baby girl in 1965. They were living in Shropshire (Little Dawley) at the time and they seem to remember it was a hospital in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, where they had the baby.  Now in their 80s (and my oldest sibling would be 60 this year) have often wondered of the possible whereabouts of their first baby's ashes/remains.

My Dad seems to remember "registering" though quite whether it was a Birth or a Death register, he cannot remember.  There is nothing I can find on Ancestry/Free BMD or Find My Past relating to this.

At the time Mom went into a coma and needed a blood transfusion, and never got to see her baby. Dad was asked if he wanted to see her, but he didn't want to at the time.  They've had to live with never knowing or seeing their firstborn, and if they could find out where babies remains ended up, they could possibly visit.

Family History Beginners Board / In a muddle with FTM2019
« on: Tuesday 22 August 23 13:15 BST (UK)  »
Wondering if this has happened to anyone else?  The profile of my Great Grandmother seems to have attached itself to my Grandparents, like my Grandfather married her aswell, and they had my Father as a Son.  She's also linked with her husband too in a different place with her own family.

I tried to delete her in one place, but it deletes her in both places (I've backed it up so been able to restore it) Not sure I'm making much sense(?) and I'd probably have to delete all the hard work from my Great Grandparents to future generations (such as mine etc) and re-do it all again.

She's only listed once in the left hand list.  But on the family tree she appears twice.  She seems to be the only one in the tree listed twice.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.  Thank you.

Family History Beginners Board / Ancestry versus My Heritage
« on: Sunday 13 August 23 08:31 BST (UK)  »
Hia, whilst I love Ancestry website, I've also been using My Heritage and had a free trial on this site.  Now they're offering me £56.40 for a whole years subscription, which appears to be for overseas records as well as UK.  This obviously works out a lot cheaper than Ancestry.

What's everyone's views on My Heritage?  Do you think it's as good as Ancestry?

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Amy Butler 1851 English Census
« on: Monday 07 August 23 09:45 BST (UK)  »
Amy Butler (1849-1927) born Tipton, Staffordshire, died Pennsylvania USA.  I think her middle name may have been Marie.  She was married to Thomas Ceney (who was a brother of my Gt Gt Grandfather Robert Ceney.  Her parents were Henry and Francis.

I am unable to find Amy in an 1851 English Census, which is what I need help with please.

In the 1861 Census, her age says she was 9.

So, I must have her year of birth incorrectly?

Scotland / My Grandmother was a servant in Scotland
« on: Friday 21 July 23 15:38 BST (UK)  »
Hia folks,

I'm wondering if someone has a subscription for the 1921 Scottish Census and can help me.  My Grandmother was Annie Morris (1900-1986) Born Chelmarsh, Shropshire.  She's in the 1911 England & Wales Census living with her parents William and Elizabeth in Bridgnorth, Shropshire.

My Mother says her Mom went up to Scotland as a Servant.  I have been on a Scottish genealogy website, and it appears there's a number of Annie Morris's aged around 20-22 in Scotland at this time.

Would anyone know if "my" Annie was amongst these please?

Thanks

The Common Room / Struggling to find a marriage record
« on: Sunday 30 April 23 15:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks, I try to make sure I have searched “high and low” before venturing on here to ask.  I am at a loss as to the marriage date of Emily Perks and John Hughes.

Emily Perks (1882-1918 West Bromwich) married John Hughes (1881-1910 West Bromwich) but I have no idea when?  I have trawled through Ancestry and Free BMD and cannot find any marriage record for them.

Info I have found......
They are both listed in the 1901 Census with daughter Elizabeth A (B1895)

After John died Emily then married Joseph Ceney (1884-1952) in West Bromwich 14 April 1914.

I can find an 1911 Census of an “A Emla Perks” as a widow, boarding at the address where her parents Abraham and Sarah Jane Perks and their other children resided.  Emily’s children John and Lizy (Elizabeth)  also lived there as “boarders.”

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can provide.

The Common Room / Elizabeth Ceney - Can't find a date of death
« on: Thursday 27 April 23 12:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks,
My 2nd Great Aunt Elizabeth Ceney (B1877) was married to Charles Reynolds (1876-1912) in 1897 in West Bromwich.  They moved to Monmouthshire, Wales to have some of their children - William, Charles, John, Percy, Thomas and Leonard.

Elizabeth was widowed in 1912 when Charles died.

I am unable to find a Death record for her, either using Elizabeth/Eliza Ceney or Reynolds.

I wonder if she married again and her Death record would be under a different surname?

So many Marriage records I'm at a loss and wondered if anyone could shed some light on this for me?

Thanks.

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Birth Record of Frederick Jones
« on: Thursday 17 March 22 13:51 GMT (UK)  »
This is a tough one.... I want to obtain the Birth Certificate of my late Great Grandfather Frederick Jones.  I have a 1911 Census which suggests he was born around 1880.  In the 1921 Census it says 1877.  Having no idea of his birth parents, I am not sure where to start.... there are so many Frederick Jones in and around West Bromwich where he was born.  Which makes finding the correct 1901 and before Censuses difficult.
I also have a copy of his War record off Ancestry, but that doesn't give any info of Birth parents.
If anyone can help I'd be much appreciated.
Thank you.
