Canada / Where to start my search
« on: Monday 25 May 09 13:42 BST (UK)  »
I have recently found out that my great grandfather had children who were in a children's home in Liverpool and were sent to Canada.

All I know is their names and dates of birth and the home they were in.

William McEwan b. 6th Dec 1904 West Derby Lancashire

David McEwan   b. 18th July 1908 West Derby Lancashire

They were in a Church of England Home for Waifs & Strays, how could they have been in a home like this as their father was still alive he was in France at the time.
They were still in this country as far as I can ascertain in 1916, their mother had died and there were 2 other younger siblings, who could possibly have been with a grandmother in Liverpool.

Any help would be most welcome.

Devon Lookup Requests / Ernest MAY
« on: Friday 08 May 09 09:10 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone be able to help me find an Earnest May I have very little to go on only family folklore on his side.

His family had a big house in Devon and a tea plantation in what was then Sri Lanka.
He married Rose Samuel who was I am told governess to his children, I take it his wife had died. He must also have been older than Rose.

Rose was born 1882 Islington to Henry & Cecilia Samuel, I found her as a child on census but that is it.
I have been told that she worked for the Abercrombie family at one time.
They use to travel between England and Sri Lanka often.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Also would anyone know where the likely burial would have been.
She had two young children who were in a Foster home in Cardiff.
