US Completed Requests / Katurahs maiden name & marriage.
« on: Saturday 18 February 17 05:24 GMT (UK)  »
I have a lot of information on Charles Foreman born Wiltshire 1836 ( this is the family I have been researching. There is no trace of him after 1851. However there is a Charles Foreman in the USA census 1871 born England 1836/1837, with a wife Katurah . I would like  to know her maiden name & her day of marriage. I do not think this is my Charles but need to eliminate him from this search. I no longer have world wide access to Ancestry, so any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you.

Wiltshire / baptism record of Charles Foreman 1836. Warminster.
« on: Sunday 10 July 16 07:33 BST (UK)  »
I have decided not to renew my subs. to Ancestry & Find my Past as my research is about 99% complete. However, a couple of mysteries still remain.
Dec. 25th 1836 Charles Foreman was baptised at Warminster. The record is as follows :
Mother Mary Foreman.
FHL 1279363.
Reg. ID item 21, p 103. What I want to know is there any way of viewing this record ? I tried the Wiltshire OPCs with no result.
A little background, his mother was married to John Foreman who died in 1834, so who was Charles father ? Mary remarried an Isaac Brown, sadly she & Isaac died in the workhouse around 1855/6.
Despite a lot of research, Charles did not marry the obvious records, no death has been recorded. I have marriage & death certificates, quite a few in fact but not the right Charles.
I would just like to know if the baptismal record would give any extra information how would i be able to view it ?
Thank you.

Occupation Interests / Footlight notes Entertainers 1800s.
« on: Wednesday 11 May 16 05:32 BST (UK)  »
Not sure what board I should be posting this on. Does any one know how to move around the Footlight Notes site ? There are hundreds of photos and articles on the old music hall entertainers and movie stars. There is a search box , when you type in a name nothing happens. I tried the box tumblr and its the same, either page cannot be found or go back to previous page. This site is supposed to have been organised by a John Culme, but there is no contact address. I googled but found nothing.
I would just like to type the artists I am interested in and see if anything comes up. It takes for ever to scroll through the site. It seems such a shame as there is so much information on it but who has the time to go through it all ? I am sure many would find this site invaluable. :)

London and Middlesex / Music hall/ acrobats, London stage 1890-1940.
« on: Sunday 13 March 16 22:20 GMT (UK)  »
I am not sure what board this should be on.
James Harold Graham & his brother Edgar Hamilton Graham lived in London for over 30 years.
The census records have them as acrobats/ music hall artists. An unknown source says they were called the Graham brothers & also worked in pantomines.
Quite a lot is known about their family ie. marriages, siblings, children. Nothing personal on them.
I am hoping someone has a photo or old program of them. James granddaughter & I have searched music hall/entertainment archive sites for 5 years now & still we have come up with nothing.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Marriage confusion.
« on: Wednesday 07 October 15 08:59 BST (UK)  »
I found in the Select Births what I was looking for. Birth of William ( George ) Day born April 2nd 1854, St. Clements Danes. Father William Day, mother Mary Ann Wessen. So I ordered the birth certificate from the GRO, naming Mary Ann Wessen as maiden name. I was pleased to get the certificate as everything matched, address/ occupation etc. Child was William Charles, except the mothers maiden name was Mary Ann Baker.
I searched the Free BMDs marriages and found William Day and Mary Ann Baker . 1848, 1st qt. Marylebone, Vol.1 page 155.
I was stunned to receive a refund from the GRO which stated ' the persons you requested are on the page at the reference you quoted but they are not married to each other'
I am confused and do not know what to think. There does not appear to be a marriage to Mary Ann Wessen and the 1868 marriage of a William Day to Mary Ann Baker are definately not the same family. Do I assume they never married ? Why is Mary Ann Wessen  on one record, yet the certificate says Mary Ann baker ? Please help me sort this out. Thank you.

London and Middlesex / Confusion with births & marriage.
« on: Sunday 24 May 15 10:49 BST (UK)  »
My ancestors George Bristow & Sarah Terrell married in London Oct 4Th 1832. A witness was a Mary Ann Terrell. I  was unsure as to whether this was Sarah's mother or a sister, so researched the name. Several Census entries for an unmarried domestic servant named Mary Ann. I hoped to find out who the father of Sarah was, she was born around 1815 and some researchers say she was the daughter of Daniel James Tyrell.
I found a birth record for a Mary Ann born in 1813 and her parents were a John & Mary Terrell.
How amazing are these Non Conformist records. It told me that mother Mary was Mary Bartholomew. daughter of Richard Bartholomew. It even lists the midwife. The records reveal perfect matches for John & Marys other children.
Elizabeth 1785. Miriam 1787 John 1794, then the big gap.
I could not find Sarah. There is a Sarah Margaret Terrell born 1811 but someone has added Tyrell to the record.
Here comes the confusion, there is a marriage between a John Terrell & Mary Bartholomew on June 16Th 1805. Unfortunately no marriage certificate to view.
I would like to know who Sarah's parents were, my instinct tells me it is not Daniel. However I have been wrong in the past.
Any tips always appreciated, thank you.

What was the youngest age a person could get married ? I presume if they were a minor, the parents would have to consent.

London and Middlesex / Who were Nellie Collings parents ?
« on: Thursday 27 November 14 05:23 GMT (UK)  »
Nellie is with her grandparents in the 1911 census (rg14 piece 2310). Living in London.
Her grandparents Francis (also known as Frank ) & Alice are very easy to trace. He was born in Dryaton Cambridgeshire. I checked out the other census years, yet I still have not  been able to link them to a Collings.
It is possible the parents never married. I am missing something, but what ?
Any help as always much appreciated.
