Denbighshire / EDWARD EDWARDS born 1863 Brymbo/Broughton
« on: Friday 11 March 22 14:56 GMT (UK)  »
I cannot seem to trace an ancestor, EDWARD EDWARDS, born 1873 Brymbo/Broughton, Denbighshire in the 1871, 1881 or 1891 census records.

Edward’s Father: Peter Edwards.  Mother: Sarah (nee Williams)

I would have expected him to have been listed with his parents in 1871 and probably as a servant in 1881.  He married in 1886 in Gwersyllt, and two children followed before the 1891 census was taken.

(Head) Edward Edwards b.1873 Brymbo, Broughton, Denbighshire
(wife) Annie Edwards (nee Barratt) b.1864 Gwersyllt, Wrexham, Denbighshire
(children)
Elsie Fanny Edwards b.16 Dec 1888, Bradley Mill, Wrexham
Harry Edwards b. 22 Feb 1891, Bradley Mill, Wrexham

Can anyone see Edward in 1871 and 1881, or Edward, Annie, Elsie and Harry in 1891?

Edward and Annie with children in 1901 and 1911.

Essex / Who are the parents of William WHITE born 1819 Terling, Essex ?
« on: Saturday 12 February 22 12:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I have been studying a couple born and married in Terling, Essex on 20 Feb 1864 – William WHITE and Elizabeth GUILDER.  They were both born in Terling, Essex.

Elizabeth GUILDER b. 1842 and William WHITE b.1819 according to census records below:-
•   1871 census - William White age 53 son-in-law to head, Hannah Guilder, born and residing in Brick Cottages, Terling.
•   1881 census – William White age 62 head, born and residing Brick Cottages, Terling.
•   1891 census – William White, Widower, age 73 living with married daughter Romia Cartick (?) Brick Cottages, Terling.

I’ve not managed to find William in 1841, 1851 or 1861. He was over 20 years older than his wife Elizabeth Guilder, so she could have been his second wife.

I have been struggling to correctly identify the father and mother of this William WHITE b.1819, and locate them on census records.

There is a marriage in Terling of a William WHITE to a Sarah MAY on 8 Jul 1817 which seems to fit my William White born 1819, Terling but I cannot see a baptism for William with these parents.

I cannot proceed further than these pieces of information - Can anyone help me please?

Cheshire / Mother of Pearl Mary Stubbs b.1927 Runcorn District
« on: Wednesday 19 January 22 15:44 GMT (UK)  »
I would like some help with tracing the identity and family of the mother of Pearl Mary Stubbs. Pearl was born Q2 1927, District: Runcorn Cheshire, MMN: Jones.  Vol 8A page 344. Pearl eventually married a William Edwin Nixon in 1946 District Northwich Vol 8A page 844.

Pearl’s father was Arthur Stubbs born 14 June 1896 at Crowton, Cheshire. The only marriage for Arthur have been able to find which seems to fit was in Q3 1926 Runcorn District Vol 8A page 613 to a Doris Mary JONES.

I think I can see them in the 1939 register- E.G.R.P. Rural District: Runcorn 446/2 living in Dunsdale Gardens (Frodsham) - Arthur, Doris M and Pearl M Stubbs.  Arthur is a gardener. Their dates of birth don’t match exactly but I think it’s them.

1911 census:-
•   Arthur is with father Edward on 1911 census, at Common side, Kingsley. Edward is a planter on government forest ground, Arthur is a cow boy. I cannot see a Doris Mary JONES anywhere in the area local to Kingsley in 1911.
•   I would expect to find her within her family unit but can’t. I saw a marriage on Familysearch.org of an Arthur Stubbs to Doris Mary Jones on 4 August 1926 in Frodsham, Cheshire. This Doris’s father’s name was George Jones. This fits with the registration at Runcorn in Q3 1926.

However, I’ve not been able to find out anything else with this information.  Can anyone help me find where Doris was in 1911 and some information about her family please?

Cheshire / Annie Elizabeth Hunt born 1877-79
« on: Wednesday 12 January 22 19:47 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching the Nixon family in Delamere, Cheshire, in particular Henry Edwin Nixon born 7 Apr 1872 Delamere, died July 1948. I would appreciate some help with identifying his wife shown on the 1901, 1911 and 1939 census.
1901 – Archive reference: RG13, Piece number:3338, Folio 104, Page 19
1911 - Series RG14, 1911.
1939 – Schedule 12, Sub Schedule 1, Enumeration District LGMM, Borough Northwich, Reg district: 447-1/29.

Marriage record - District Chester - Vol 8A Page 813 – Marriage Q3, year 1900 shows Henry Edwin Nixon married either Ellen Hewitt or Annie Elizabeth Hunt – census records shows it was Annie Elizabeth HUNT.
Year and place of birth for Annie Elizabeth HUNT varies -
1901 census – born 1877 in Coppenhall, Cheshire
1911 census – born 1879 in Spurstow, Cheshire (incorrectly transcribed as Spinston on FindMyPast)
1939 census – gives actual date of birth as 16 Dec 1877

There is a parish baptism for Annie Elizabeth Hunt birth year 1877, baptism 08 Oct 1877 at Weston (near Crewe). Parents baptising are William and Annie Hunt. I believe this is the right record.

I cannot find her in 1881 with or without her parents.

There is a 1891 census record that could include her - Registration district Newcastle Under Lyme, Sub registration district: Audley, ED, Institution or Vessell: 11, Piece 2152, Folio: 109. This gives place of birth as Weston, Cheshire. However, the family are living in Barthomley, Staffordshire.

Could this be the family of my Annie Elizabeth Hunt?

Thanks for reading and I welcome any comments.

Cheshire / Margaret Nield b.1861 birthplace unclear
« on: Tuesday 04 January 22 18:27 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching this lady who was the wife of William Lloyd and is listed in the 1891, 1901 and 1911 censuses with William and their large family.  In 1891 William is listed as a Market Gardener living at The Sheaf, Tarvin, but by 1901 he is farming at Austin’s Hill, Tarvin and is still there by 1911.

On the census records Margaret’s birth place is given as:-
•   1891: Burton, Cheshire
•   1901: Tarvin, Cheshire
•   1911: not known

There is a marriage in Q3 1880 Chester Vol 8a Page 561, which fits nicely with the first child listed in 1891 census - Henry: 1882.

I have looked for Margaret in 1861, 1871 and 1881 but I can see only one entry that fits the birth year and the abode, Duddon, is close to Tarvin (although place of birth doesn’t fit) :-
(1861) Class: RG 9/2624/174 p 8

Margaret Nield is a 2 month old, child living with John and Ann Craven (Ag Lab) and their children aged 13 and 9 – the Cravens are all born Utkinton. The entry states “nurse child” with age unclear but probably 2 months. Birthplace of Margaret is Staffordshire. There seems to be no connection of this child to the Craven family.  This household is listed under sub heading of Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, where the head of household is Joseph Woollam, wife Mary, daughter Kate 34 and son William 26 plus servants Sarah Udale 14 and Abraham Joinson 18. Joseph is a farmer and shopkeeper.

There are some trees on Ancestry that refer to Margaret as Margaret Dutton/Nield, without giving explanation. There is an entry above Joseph Woollam of a farmer called John Dutton aged 41, with wife and children.

I have considered whether the mother of this 2 months old child died and having looked at female Nield burials close to Duddon in late 1860/early 1861 there are a few possibles.

Before I continue on the following up this line of thought, can anyone reading this find my Margaret Nield in 1861 and 1871 anywhere else?  Also, if William and Margaret were married in 1880, where are they in 1881 census? – I cannot find them on the 1881 census anywhere.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I welcome any comments.

Somerset / James GOULD born 1802-1805, North Cadbury
« on: Monday 20 December 21 12:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I'd appreciate some help in confirming who the parents were of James GOULD, who was, according to 1851 and 1861 census records, born in North Cadbury (note: 1851 is wrongly transcribed as West Bradley as can clearly be seen on original record). On the 1851 there looks to be someone transcribed as James (mother) female age 80 birth year 1771 born North Cadbury.

Looking for possible parents of James I can see three possibles:-
- 17 April 1803 North Barrow (Robert and Elizabeth)
- 29 Dec 1805  South Barrow (James and Amy)
- 14 Nov 1802  North Cadbury (Joseph and Ann)
These parishes are fairly close together.

If the 1851 census is showing James' father JAMES GOULD and not mother, this might suggest James and Amy are the parents and his baptism was in South Barrow in 29 Dec 1805.  However the baptism by Joseph and Ann in North Cadbury on 14 Nov 1802 is a better fit (but doesn't explain the entry on the 1851 census?)

James married Leah Hole in 1829 in West Bradley, and the children were all born/lived in West Bradley. James Gould died in West Bradley in 1870 aged 68, giving birth record as 1802.

Thanks for reading this - any ideas how I can proceed?

Somerset / JANE COLMER (Colerer on marriage ref) born around 1766
« on: Monday 06 December 21 16:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I’m struggling to find a baptism for a Jane COLMER (transcribed as Colerer on marriage register) who married James CLOSE in St Dunstan’s Church, Baltonsborough, Somerset on 3 June 1789.
The 1841 census shows both James and Jane as born 1766.

I cannot find a baptism for a Jane (using various spellings of her surname) born around 1766 in/near Baltonsborough. The nearest match is a baptism for Jane Comer on 12 Jan 1772, Street, Somerset by John and Betty Comer.

There is a possible burial for Jane Close in Baltonsborough on 12 August 1848 (born 1763).

Would value help on this.

Dorset / The HUNT family of Keinton Mandeville, Somerset and Shaftesbury, Dorset
« on: Tuesday 02 November 21 18:05 GMT (UK)  »
George HUNT b.1814-1853 Keinton Mandeville married Elizabeth Ridewood in 1839 in KM.
I’m looking for George’s parents and find a marriage on 27 May 1813 in KM for George Hunt and Elizabeth Stag which seems to fit.
Details state both parties are ‘of this parish’. The 1841-1871 census’s record George’s birth as between 1787-1791 Shaftesbury/Christchurch Dorset.
His son George (b.1814) isn’t listed on 1841 census as he was already married and not living with his parents.
George (b.1787-1791) and Elizabeth (Stag) have plenty of children over the years – the ones listed on the 1841 census list being born in KM.
There is a record for a baptism of a George Hunt on 24 Sep 1790, Shaftesbury, Dorset – Father: William.  This seems to fit but there is no mention of the mother. I’ve tried looking for marriages for William but so far can’t find one that seems right.  Can anyone help please?

Somerset / Charlotte BURT b.1789 Pitney or High Ham, Somerset
« on: Friday 29 October 21 12:45 BST (UK)  »
I’m revisiting the family of a Charlotte Burt who according to 1841, 1851 and 1861 census records lived in Keinton Mandeville and was married to Daniel Ridewood.

The marriage record (Somerset, England, Marriage Registers, Bonds and Allegations 1754) - 15 Nov 1812 in Keinton Mandeville, Somerset, states she was “of this parish”, whereas her birth is given on 1851 census as High Ham, Somerset and 1861 census as Pitney, Somerset (close neighbouring villages).  I have not been able to find possible parents baptising her (census’s give birth dates 1791, 1788 and 1789) around this area.   I do see one in Montacute , Somerset - 14 April 1790 (Samuel and Betty Burt), but this is much further away.

There is a Charlotte Burt marrying an Edward Gare in Pitney in April 1848 (full age and a spinster) - which confirms the surname “Burt” in that village. Her father was a Solomon Burt. I see a Charlotte Burt (ancestry transcribe as Bart) baptism in Feb 1818 in Pitney by Solomon and Elizabeth Bart which might relate to above marriage. I can see Solomon with Elizabeth in 1841 living in Pitney - gives his birth year as 1796.  Also a marriage to Elizabeth Hoyle in 1817 Long Sutton.   I find a baptism on 7 Jan 1829 for Solomon Burt aged 34 years (dob:1795) by Thomas (deceased) and Mary Burt, Pitney.  Two other older aged baptisms on the page which is unusual I would have thought. Given that Solomon married in 1817 and by 1829 already has two children, why might he be baptised so late in life?

Could this Thomas and Mary be my Charlotte’s parents ? Is my Charlotte is Solomon’s sister? I’ve looked for other baptisms by Thomas and Elizabeth Burt and see one for Harriet Burt bap 19 Apr 1789 Pitney. I’ve scrolled either side of this but can’t find another.  Harriet’s bap date is close to the date for Charlotte’s baptism. Are they one and the same person? Or was Charlotte simply not baptised.  Many thanks for reading this and I would love to hear comments/suggestions.
