London and Middlesex / GORMAN - 44 Hine Street, Burdett Road, Poplar
« on: Thursday 29 July 21 15:29 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any information for the address 44 Hine Street, Burdett Road, Poplar - which appeared on an admissions record for one of my ancestors.

William GORMAN appears to have disappeared after he admitted his mother into the hospital.  I cannot find an address of 'Hine Street' and wondered if anyone who knows the area can confirm if there is such an address.  William James DUKE was born illegitimately to Mary Ann DUKE in 1859, but took the surname of GORMAN after she married Hugh GORMAN in 1869.

London and Middlesex / William GORMAN, Burdett Road, Poplar

The last known whereabouts of William GORMAN is on his mother's admission record to the asylum.  He is listed as her friend (son) of 44 Hine St, Burdett Rd, Poplar.  It was previously thought that William (born 1857, illegitimately as William James DUKE) had emigrated, but his mention on Mary Ann GORMAN's admission record shows that he is still alive in 1899.

I am looking for any information on when and where he died.  I can't find him on the 1901 census and I also cannot trace 44 Hine Street, Burdett Road, Poplar on any map.  Any help appreciated.  I hope this is the right board on which to post this.

US Lookup Requests / William James GORHAM died 1929
« on: Monday 03 June 19 10:03 BST (UK)  »
I am based in the UK but would like to find out a bit more about William James GORHAM whose grave appears on Find a Grave at https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/64130851

I am trying to ascertain if he is the William GORMAN I am searching for, as their birth dates are the same (born 22 Oct 1859).  My WIlliam was born on 22 Oct 1859 in the workhouse at Greenwich, England - the illegitimate son of Mary Ann Duke (later married to Hugh GORMAN)

I cannot find out a birth, marriage or census return for the William James GORHAM who died in USA, so basically I am trying to prove or disprove if he is the one connected to my family.

Down / Daniel GORMAN, Dromara
« on: Wednesday 03 February 16 20:59 GMT (UK)  »
It pays to keep revisiting newspaper archives online as more and more papers are added each day.  I have now found my Daniel GORMAN who was a surgeon in Glasgow, but he came from Dromara according to his death notice (attached).  I am hoping therefore, that he married (Margret?) in Dromara before coming over to Glasgow so any help appreciated from those local to the area.

Inverness / Donald McLEOD and Ann McKINNON
« on: Thursday 26 March 15 21:24 GMT (UK)  »
I cannot find anything in the OPRs for Donald McLeod and Ann McKinnon but they were both born on Skye (Donald around 1820 to Archibald McLeod and Elizabeth Dingwall) and Ann to Angus McKinnon and Rachel McLeod(around 1822). They settled in Leith where they both died (Donald in 1883 and Ann in 1887) and they had a son Donald around 1849. On the 1871 census, they had their niece and nephew staying (Flora and William) who were the children of Malcolm McLeod and Mary McQueen)

I am interested in finding out the date of Donald and Ann's marriage which I reckon was around 1845 - 1849 and if either Donald or Ann had brothers and sisters possibly born in the Snizort or Durness areas of Skye.

I ordered this certificate as I am searching for the death of Margaret GORMAN midwife.  This appeared to be a likely contender, but sadly, it was not the Margaret GORMAN that I required.
If you think it would be of use to you, pleae send me a PM.

Stirlingshire / Covenanters Inn, Trossachs
« on: Monday 05 January 15 20:22 GMT (UK)  »
This is a bit of a long shot, but I am trying to trace any photos (or even sound recordings) of a dance band that played at the Covenanters Inn, Trossachs in the early 1960s.  Joe Laurie played the piano and sometimes the trumpet in the band.  Any information or locations of sources would be gratefully received.
