Alf was a Lance Bombadier in the Royal Horse Artillery in WW2 and latterly in the 88th Field Battery Artillery in Singapore.

He spent a number of years (1942-1945) as a POW, initially in Changi, Singaore and then in Omi Camp #13 Tokyo. Alf was initially repatriated to Sydney New South Wales in error by his American liberators after the Japanese capitualated, before returning home to Phillipstown, New Tredegar. There was an artical about him and his Pal in the local papers at the time and their 'Australian Adventure' of which I have a copy.

Trying to locate any relatives of Alf ADAMS, (1910-1955) who lived in Phillipstown, New Tredegar during late 1945 plus. his family are from the area.

Particularly trying to make contact with his son Dai (David J) ADAMS (born late 40's in the area).

Would be grateful to hear from anyone who knows Dai or his family as I information about his fathers time in the Far East, including photographs, which I would like to pass on to him. Please PM me any private info.

Thanks in advance.......and Regards..... Margeanne.

Hello Everyone,

Hoping that some SKS can help me please? I'm really hoping that someone has the burial indexes for cemetaries in Ferndale.

Looking for the burial of Alfred FARNSWORTH - death entry recorded as this name, although he was born a FARNWORTH. He died Q3 1891, Age 46, District Merthyr, Glamorganshire.

Last known address in 1891 (census) 145 High Street, Penydarren, Merthyr. Although he resided in Penydarren, in 1891, an elderly relative tells me that Alfred is buried in Ferndale?

I would grately appreciate it if someone could look this up for me.  :-*

Thanks in advance and Regards......Sweetfannyadams

Staffordshire / Childrens Home - 218 Stone Road Stafford ***COMPLETED***
« on: Sunday 08 August 10 13:00 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone please know anything about the Children's Home that was located at 218 Stone Road, Stafford.

It existed as Children's Home from at least the early 1920's until late 1930's. I believe it is now called Springfields & is currently a Residential Care Home for people with learning difficulties.

I am interested to know what type of Children's Home this was & why children may have been place there & who would have run it.

How I can find out about getting hold of any records of it's for want of a better word 'orphans'.

Thanks & Kind Regards...SFA.

Lanarkshire / Police Service Records Pre 1916 - Hamilton Area ***COMPLETED***
« on: Wednesday 04 August 10 16:47 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Can any SKS please advise me where I can obtain a copy of My Great Uncle Walter RUTHERFORD's Police Service Record. I believe that he served in the Hamilton Constabulary, prior to enlisting in 2nd Bn, Scots Guards in Hamilton in 1915 & later dying from wounds on the Somme (F&F) in Nov 1916.

His name appears on the War Memorial located in the grounds of the Sherriff Court, in Beckford Street, Hamilton, which is dedicated to Police Officers of Lanarkshire Constabulary who were killed in Military Service in WW1 & WW2.

Also would the Police Service Record have a photograph associated with it.

For what it's worth Walter was born 13 Sep 1895, Oaklands, Annan, Dumfriesshire & died 20 Nov 1916, Somme, France.

Thanks for all help given......& Regards....SFA.
