Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / St Neots workhouse
« on: Sunday 05 June 11 20:48 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know if there is a transcribed list of inmates of St Neots workhouse?
I have a Daniel Isitt  a boarder aged 10, an Ag Lab, on the 41 census in Kimbolton.
It says he is born out of the county. On one later census he says he is born in Bedfordshire and others in Kimbolton.
I cannot find any earlier information on him anywhere and wonder if he was a child that was taken from the workhouse to work for the family that he boarded with. I cannot find that he has any connection to this family.
There doesn't appear to be any other Isitt families in the neighbourhood on any census, apart from his own family, so he is a bit of a mystery. He married and spent the remainder of his life in Kimbolton.
Thanks Carose

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Baptism at Walesby church, Notts
« on: Monday 27 December 10 12:20 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone has the baptism records for Walesby church in Nottinghamshire [not the Lincolnshire one] I have been going through my family info, that I found when I used to visit Nottingham archives from Sheffield, and find that I don't have the baptism of my greatgrandmother, Mary Jane Smith. Her parents were George and Mary Smith, nee Fairham.
Mary Jane was born in Walesby in 1862. I have looked on the internet but it doesn't appear to be on Familysearch or the Hugh Wallis site.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / mexborough schools
« on: Thursday 12 August 10 09:19 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me if there were many schools in Mexborough circa 1922?
I visited Doncaster archives and searched through an admission book for Mexbro National school but didn't find the person that I was looking for. Although he didn't appear in the index, I searched the book from 1922 - 1924. The archives don't have any other books for this period and couldn't tell me if there were any other schools. It would be an infant school.
I am looking for any information on Joseph Cooper who was born in 1917 to Ada Cooper nee Holbrook and who died in Sep. 1924 aged 7, after an appendicitis operation in Mexbro Montague hospital.
As his mother had died in Jan 1924 aged 39 and he had no other relatives, I am also trying to find out who the person was who was present at his death and who lived at the same address of 2, Wilson Street, an  A. E. Fletcher. I believe this was a woman, as I think I have found her living in Armley on the 1911 census, again as just A.E. Fletcher.
I would also like to hear from anyone who might be connected to this person.
Thanks, carose

Could you please look if there are any Cowles in the probate records. Mine seem to have lived at Westerleigh, Frampton Cotterell, Coal Pit Heath and I think originally from Siston in the 1700's. As I am in Sheffield it is difficult for me to access the Glos. records that I need, if they are not on the internet.
thanks Carose

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / COWLES in Siston
« on: Wednesday 31 March 10 15:25 BST (UK)  »
I [think] have traced my Cowles ancestors  back to Siston, to a William and Hannah Cowles. While their children are baptised there on the IGI, I cannot find or at least don't have access to any records from which I can find their marriage about 1787. Can anyone help please?
Thankyou,
 Carose

Yorkshire (West Riding) / doncaster newspapers/ present day
« on: Saturday 24 October 09 13:58 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me which present day newsapaper covers the Doncaster area, Mexbrough in particular. I wondered if they have a contact column. In researching a relative, Ada Cooper, I have found several children born in different area's, from Swinton to Bradford, Denaby Main to Mexbrough before she finally died in the Doncaster workhouse in 1923. I don't think that any of the children knew of the existence of the others, being left in various places. The last child that she had was Joseph Cooper in 1917 in Mexbrough, and I am trying to trace any descendants, if he survived that is. Apart from his birth certificate, I have no other information as to what happened to him after his birth but wonder where he went to after her death. I recently found another sister Alice Holbrook Cooper born in Swinton in 1906 and she died as recently as 1995 in Huddersfield, which is quite sad, as my father in law Ernest Cooper, born in 1913 in Denaby, did not know of any of his siblings, in fact never knew his mother Ada, as she left him and his sister Mary Cooper/Stone in Rotherham workhouse in 1916. Also missing is Florence Cooper/Stone the twin of Mary born in Bradford in 1911. If anyone can help, please get in touch as I have been researching this for approx. 20 years and in the past few months, everything seems to be clicking into place.
I recently found an entry in the doncaster workhouse, when Ada went into there for a month in August 1913 before she went into Rotherham workhouse and Ernest is named as Ernest Scrimshaw Cooper,so was he the father, who is not named on the birth cert?
thank you

Huntingdonshire Lookup Requests / Daniel Isitt
« on: Tuesday 04 August 09 17:01 BST (UK)  »
On the 41 census Daniel Isitt is boarding with the Willers/Millers family in Kimbolton, Hunts. He is aged 10 and an Ag Lab, place of birth denoted with an N. On the 51, place of birth given as Bedford. On the 61 as Kettering. On the 71 and 81 given as Kimbolton. He married Jane Day in Kimbolton and stayed there the rest of his life. I cannot find any information as to where he might have come from and why he was  living in Kimbolton. There doesn't apppear to be any other Isitt's in the area, leading me to think that Bedford may be his place of birth but where and to whom? Nothing on the IGI, so have now come to a brick wall. Any help appreciated with suggestions as to why he was living with this family. Could he be an orphan and have been taken from the workhouse for employment or sent out to work by his parents to bring some money in to support a large family.Where are the rest of his family?

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Parish records for Crick
« on: Friday 16 May 08 17:04 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to the parish records for Crick please?  I am researching the names Vaus and Shepherd. William Shepherd married Esther/Hester Vaus in Crick on Oct 18th 1813.
I would like a copy of the actual marriage certificate if there is anyone who could copy this for me, perhaps at a record office. I only have the information that someone has sent to me from the marriage index disc. I will reimburse you for it.
I believe that Hester's parents were William and Mary. [from the IGI] I would like to find any additional information e.g their marriage, if it took place at Crick, and any other siblings.
Thank you,
Carose
