Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Octar Copson royal worcs artist
« on: Friday 04 March 05 13:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I'm trying to find whether I have any Copson links with Octar (Harry) Copson born in 'Worcester' (that's all I have) in 1851.
If anyone has access to the 1861 census and can find him  as a 9/10 year old I'd be very grateful. Info on his aprentys etc would be great.
He was working at Royal Worcs from around 1868-1880.

many thanks

Meg

and of the Jubilee pit sinkings (which I understand are now a golf course in Sandwell Park).

Many Thanks,

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / West Bromwich 1861
« on: Monday 28 February 05 11:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi!

If anyone is looking at the 1861 for West Brom and they come across a:

 George Watson (bricklayer)

I'd be grateful for any info on him. He had a daughter Sarah who would  about 18 at the time of the 1861 I don't know if she was living at home in 1861.

I don't have any more info that that, sorry,  I know Sarah married in 1862 in the 'parish church' in West Brom but the certificate I have gives no further info.
Many thanks
Meg

Cumberland Lookup Requests / Parish records Ireton (Irton?) Cumberland
« on: Wednesday 16 February 05 15:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I know this is a long shot but, has anyone access to parish records for Ireton Cumberland?
I can't find anything online (if anyone knows if records are available online that would help too!).

I'm trying to find the records of William Turner born  about 1751 in Burnthouse Ireton , His lady wife Mary (no maiden name) born 1755
and their children:
Robert  1777
Mary Elizabeth 1779
Samuel  1783
Jane 1788
As far as I know they were all born in Burnthouse Ireton.
It is possible someone might find Samuel and Robert on the 1841 census, that would help too.

I'm also looking for John Bryden (Brydon) who was born in Ireton in 1800.
Jim kindly found John Bryden on the 1851 census for me, but if anyone can find a parish record of him marrying Mary Turner in Ireton around  1823  it would be great!

Also, I have this Turner mystery, The name goes down the generations, not just through one 'link' (child) but I've found cousins with the 'Turner' name. Makes me wonder who he was? Not anything to do with THE William Turner I know, but I do wonder if he was 'someone' (as opposed to a nobody like me!)
Thanks very much
Meg

Cumberland Lookup Requests / Gosforth 1851 or 1841 please
« on: Tuesday 08 February 05 21:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

If anyone is looking at either 1841 or 1851 for Gosforth ( and Whitehaven)  area could they look for  Mary Elizabeth Bryden (nee Turner, born around 1800 ish, maybe Scotland)

She married John Bryden (possibly around same age) I know they had  one son William Turner Bryden born 1824 other children I don't know about.
John was either  a Sailor or Tailor according to William's marriage cert.

Any info welcome,

Thanks  very much
 Cheers,
Meg

Hi,
I'm having HUGE problems with this..anyone any ideas?
Need to find more on a JOHN HOPKINS born 1847 London Middlesex...Was a Mariner on his 1872 marriage cert, it gives his father's name as John and he is a mariner too.
He lived in Liverpool from 1872.
Can't find possible for him on 1871 census, but he could have been at sea....

I need to find his family - presumably still in London... but where are they?

Really need 1851 census when he would have been around  4 years old, have no idea WHERE they lived so I need a name index search.
Help !
please!!!!
Meg...

The Lighter Side / For all to see?
« on: Tuesday 23 November 04 18:51 GMT (UK)  »
This isn't really a light matter but didn't really know where to put it!

I've recently joined (quite a large FHS) who want me to fill out an Ancestry chart, so far so good, BUT this includes my D.O.B and that of my spouse and parents and grandparents... and my home address...
This will then be on a disc and available to any one who asks for it. They also seem to put email address in their lists whether you want them to or not!

Is this really a good idea  these days?

I think not!!
Imagine all the uses 'bad' people could do with my info!
Think of the people who use mother's maiden name for bank account passwords! (I don't as it happens!)

I'm  very  very wary about giving out info about my self unless I know it is going to be strictly controlled, FHS's are run by volunteers and there doesn't seem to be any idea of PRIVACY or data protection..

Needless to say I shall not be filling the form with info earlier than my grandparents! I shall also be telling the said FHS what I think of their ideas!
Any one else come across this  lack of security with FHS's ?
