London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1901 Lookup Request - Edgar Hill
« on: Monday 20 April 09 22:04 BST (UK)  »
Would someone kindly check the 1901 Cencus for the whereabouts of my great grandfather Edgar Lionel Hill born about 1898 and living with his parents Benjamin and Alice Hill. He may have been born in China and moved to India a few years later, but in 1901 I believe they were in Islington, London.
Many thanks
Scott

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Census Lookup Please
« on: Friday 01 August 08 00:47 BST (UK)  »
Could someone please check to see what William and Mary Schlofield (or Schofield) were up to in 1851, 1861 and 1871? In 1841 William is a shoemaker and the family is living at Water End, Holme-upon-Spalding Moor, Howden, Yorks. Mary's father Ralph Gell and her son Robert Gell are living with them.
I would also like to find out what Ann Gell, Robert's wife was doing in 1891 and 1901. In 1881 she is down as a 48 year old charwoman, living with my great grandmother (aged 10) in Holme.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
Scott

Durham Lookup Requests / 1871 Census - Ralph Hill
« on: Wednesday 30 July 08 00:37 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I am trying to find out if Ralph Hill can be found on the 1871 Census. He is down on the 1851 Census as a 47 year old coal trimmer from Swinton in Yorks. He is married to Mary Wilson of the same age and they live, at that time in Knowles Street, New Stranton, Durham.
Thanks
Scott :)

Thomas James Atkinson was baptized at All Saints Poplar on Nov 5th 1817. His father is listed as Thomas Atkinson, a Shipwright and his mother was named Anna. By 1841 Thomas James had left the nest. I know this is a long shot but is there any way of finding this couple in 1841 or possibly 1851?
Any help would be great.
Thanks
Scott

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / 1841, 1851 Census Lookup - Simkins
« on: Monday 26 May 08 01:15 BST (UK)  »
Could someone please  check the above census for Charles Simkins, a carpenter born about 1832 in Cambridgeshire? In 1861 he was living in the East End of London with his wife Mary. Their eldest child was Charles W who himself became a carpenter. By 1871 they had added several other children to the family line-up and even more by 1881. I believe Mary's surname was Bunten and she married Charles Senior in London in 1852. Charles Senior may have died about 1887. I would like to know, if possible the whereabouts of Mary in 1841, 1851, 1891, and 1901. One last thing, I would like to know if her son Charles W Simkins appears in the 1891 and 1901 Census. I have a theory that, although his wife remarried in about 1890 she was not a widow(cue the dramatic music).
I would appreciate any help!

Europe / GERMANY: The Stein and Gall Families
« on: Thursday 17 April 08 00:36 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for info on two branches of the family.

John or Johan Leonard Stein, a butcher was born in Berlin in about 1842. He may have married
Marie Babette Weidner in London in 1874. I know of his whereabouts in the East End of London thanks to the intrepid work of a Rootschatter. I would like to know if there is anything about him and his family during the German years. I should also include the fact that John Leonard's wife was known as Barbara and they had a son named Frederick and a daughter who had Fredericke as one of her middle names (thanks Suz).

August Gall was a chemical worker, born in Germany in about 1852. His father was a German farmer named George Gall. August Gall married Catherine Collins in England in 1882 and they moved back to Germany before retuning to the East End. I would like to know if there is any info on his early life in Germany.
Thank you.

South Africa / John Thompson Goes South
« on: Monday 14 April 08 01:13 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for info on this little known member of my family. He was the eldest child of John and Amanda Thompson, born in West Hartlepool, Durham in 1880. Sometime after the turn of the century he decided to move to South Africa and make his mark. Apparently he did so spectacularly and gave his younger sister Florence a fair amount of money. He did not marry but may have had a child. His death in the 1950's was, according to family rumour a mystery.
Can anyone help flesh (or flush) him out.
Scott
