One Name Studies: A to G / Cann Norfolk
« on: Wednesday 20 October 10 11:12 BST (UK)  »
I have a long time (well 6 years ) interest in the Cann name mainly Norfolk and I am on a budget of nil so use free sites etc and also beg help.
I want to try and link as many Canns as I can together,is this what a 1 name study is all about?
My Cann name connected to Bell/King/Hewett/Pegg/Mountain/Watling/Adams/Buxton/Reeve/Patrick/Godfrey/Hudson/Burton/Hatton/Chaplin/George and many many many others.
A lot of the names are through Marriage etc.
Quite a bit of confusion in my tree ,changed names and hard to follow through census records etc.
Also could Canell become Cann later on in generations.
Could Hipper be Skipper at any time?
Anyone researching Canns of Norfolk on a big Scale that may be willing to offer me info and visa versa from me too?
Hope I'm posting this in right area as I do worry about posting in wrong place etc,I do try my best to get things right.
Regards to you all.

Norfolk / William Bell Horse Dealer
« on: Wednesday 17 March 10 16:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi ,hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction for finding the right William Bell.
I have Mary Bell as his daughter born c1870 she is named Mary Hebert Bell on her sons birth cert and family Bible and Mary Bell on her marriage cert.
Marriage says age 20 in 1890 and family bible says 1870 birth but I have picked a Mitford birth c1867 for her but now I'm not sure at all.My Canns at the time including her husband Fred were Mitford births.
Mary married Fred Cann in Swanton Morley 1890 Norfolk, bible says Salvation Army Church. The certificate dosn't give me a lot as registry office cert.
The only thing I have is William Bell father Horse Dealer desceased.
Also census records have a Susan Bell c1831 living with Fred and Mary,I had her down as her mother but maybe someone can check for me as she was named as a boarder in one census.I havn't got funds for full records so any help appriciated.
If I get a more definate mother Susan then can look for William and Susan as a definate?I have been doing so but as yet I'm not sure of any Iv'e found.
Not Knowing Williams birth place makes it very difficult. Thanks for any help you can give me

Cork / marriage certificate Richard McDonnell
« on: Wednesday 03 February 10 17:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,I 'm not too good at this and wasn't sure what I could post full details and numbers from Family Search because of this copyright thing.
I have 2 records  Civil Registration Indexes 1845-1958 of marriage found for Richard McDonnell  and Ellen Wilson jan -march 1887
The records match ( it says M'Donnell for Richard) only other difference is the image number all the rest numbers are the same in both.
This was found on family search.
Is there any numbers I can use from this to help me get a copy of their marriage certificate and will this give me more information such as parents.
Also can someone link me to the site for purchasing said certificate.
They were catholics and married in ss peter and pauls Cork 16/02/1887.
Hi,just looked at another post and found the form to print off and fill in but what is a pps number and is this needed.
Also I have the marriage date but not entirely sure its fully correct, would I be safe to put the full date in or am I best to leave it as year of marriage only?
Thankyou

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / colour Please,Mum and Dad at Butlins
« on: Wednesday 11 February 09 19:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi ,I had to ask again as the last photo was so well coloured and I think this is a really good photo of my Mum and Dad who are now sadly deceased.
I can give my sis a copy too ,again for her birthday if it can be done.
I think this one deserves some colour. Also if my Mums black tooth can be whitened that would be nice too.
When she was pregnant with me all her teeth went black and she had false teeth fitted.I took all the goodness out of her. :(
My Dads teeth look false I know but his are his own. ;D
Thanks
Moira
It took me ages to find the photo after I resized it as I didn't realize I had posted this message without it,sorry if you already viewd message with no pic showing.Wouldn't be the first to do that I know :-[

Hi all,I would love to have this photo coloured if at all possible, the condition is good I think apart from mark on my grans face in front .Also it does seem a bit speckly on the dark colours. So any help to make it look better would be a great help to me.
It is for a 60th birthday present for my sister who is bedridden, she is the little Girl in the front and possibly the only one still living.
My Mum is in the spotted dress brown hair and brown eyes,my dad right at the back not so clear he had blond hair and blue eyes.Shame my dad not as clear as the others in the photo.
I would love to Print and Frame one for her birthday as I think it would make a meaningfull and loving present.
I have resized so hope this is Ok for doing this?
This is much appriciated,
Thankyou
Moira.

Hi,I have this photo that I thought was my dad but I now think it isn't as is possibly a bit older.
It's not a good photo as done by taking with a camera some time ago and I havn't got the original but Im hoping the style of photo may give the date away?
The clothes he wore won't help neither as is a sports type pic and as a young boy too.
Thanks in advance for any help with this one.

Census and Resource Discussion / Does my Thomas Cann excist
« on: Monday 31 March 08 11:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi,hope you can help me out I have a family of Cann's

Thomas Cann c1842
Louisa Hewett c1838
Fred/Frederic c1870
Thomas c1871?
Walter c1873
Emmeline c1876

Frederic was my Great Grandad and I have his birth cert with Thomas and Louisa as parents.
On the 1881 census son thomas is Shown age 10 but no sign of Fred
I can't view all census details as havn't funds to do so.
I can't find a birth for Thomas.
The births from this family are Mitford District as they come from the Swanton Morley area of Norfolk.
Although Walter was born in Stockton on tees as thats where my Family ended up in the North East of England.
I'm beginning to wonder if Thomas excists,or that he is Fred?
I have some family bible details but most of the dates in the bible are not the same as the birth records.
Thanks in advance for any help you experts can give me.
Puzzled over this for a while now.
My Canns havn't made it easy for me. :-\
