Northumberland Lookup Requests / Cross border marriage lookup - Muckle
« on: Thursday 19 August 10 13:19 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the two marriages of Thomas Muckle b. 1783ish.

He married Ann Burn before 1811 (first child born), and Elizabeth ? before 1825.

He was a stone mason, lived in Chatton, and is buried there, but all the children were baptised in the United Presbyterian Non Conformist church in Cheviot Street Wooler.

I have looked through the Bishop of Durham transcripts for Chatton but cannot find the marriages there.

Many thanks

Huntingdonshire Lookup Requests / James Bird 1781/2
« on: Tuesday 05 January 10 22:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all

I have posted up a long preamble on the Northumberland Board:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,428573.0.html

But my request relates to two possible parish lookups. I have a relation James Bird who was a tailor in Plessey Northumberland. On the records for his children it says he was a native of the parish of St Ives, however looking him up on the IGI only gives one born about that date in Kimbolton (Chr 16/1/1781) with parents James Bird and Dorothy.

A James Bird and Dorothy appear to have subsequent children in Morpeth Northumberland, my James is also married in Morpeth and Morpeth is not far from Plessey.

Please could some kind person look up the parish records for both St Ives and Kimbolton to see if there is a James Bird born about 1781/2 and let me know if it gives any further information relating to his parents and where they originated from to help me establish a link to the Morpeth James and Dorothy.

Many thanks

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Bird Family Morpeth
« on: Tuesday 05 January 10 22:30 GMT (UK)  »
I have a James Bird born abt 1782.

His children were born in Plessey (1803-1820), christened in Stannington. I have found several of them in the Bishops Transcripts and the earlier births all say

'....son of James Bird of Plessey tailor and native of St Ives Huntingdonshire by his wife Mary Ward native of Beverley Yorkshire'

There is a marriage on the IGI and in the Morpeth BD records for a James Bird and Mary Ward 12/10/1801 but it just says native of this parish.

Looking up James Bird on the IGI for a birth in Huntingdonshire just brings up one for about that date - christened 16/1/1781, father James, mother Dorothy in Kimbolton which some distance from St Ives.

Then looking up children for James and Dorothy on the IGI for about that time  brings up 6 children born in Morpeth (1786-1779) and a marriage of a James Bird to a Dorothy Bowman in Morpeth on 12/2/1780.

My conundrum is that I don't know if my James is the son of Morpeth James and Dorothy who happened to be in St Ives in 1781.

I will also post a link back to here on the Huntingdon board but after that long preamble ...

My request is a lookup in the original Morpeth records for the marriage of James Bird and Mary Ward in 1801 to see if there is any further information mentioned - either in relation to parish or any witnesses.

Many thanks

World War One / WW1? Jones photo
« on: Sunday 29 November 09 10:20 GMT (UK)  »
I have posted a photo up on the Photos board of a man I think is either Thomas Evan Jones or John Jones.

I would really appreciate help in confirming that it is a WW1 uniform and it would be great if anyone could identify the regiment from the really poor image of the cap badge.

World War One / WW1 ? and regiment is poss
« on: Sunday 29 November 09 10:15 GMT (UK)  »
The attached is one of two people I think - either Thomas Evan Jones or John Jones (nice and easy names to track down). Ada Quarman married John Jones in 1916 (certificate on way) and he died in WW1 though record not yet confirmed. She then married Thomas Evan Jones in 1919. Both marriages were in Pontypridd district but the grooms could have come from other parts of Wales.

Can anyone please confirm that the gentleman is wearing a WW1 uniform, and would anyone be able to tell from the cap badge what regiment he might be in. It's difficult to get a really good image, it's a large portrait and I can only take a photo rather than a scan.
Many thanks

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Collingwood deaths 1852 & 53
« on: Friday 06 March 09 22:34 GMT (UK)  »
The Bishop of Durham St Johns registers on the familysearch site seem to be missing 1852, from page 663 it seems to go from 1851 to 1853.

If anyone has access to the registers please could they see if four Collingwood burials are mentioned in 1852 & 53. I have found them on freebmd and can order the certificates but want to see if the burial records are there. I am assuming it will be St Johns as all the children were christened there.

I am looking for ....
Ann Collingwood death registered Jun 1852, aged about 79, widow of Henry Collingwood (snr)
Henry Collingwood (about 1) and Jane Ann Collingwood (about 5) registered Sep 52
Ann Collingwood registered Dec 53 aged about 33 wife of Henry Collingwood (jnr)

I have only just discovered the Collingwoods in my line and it's quite sad as both Henry snr and Henry jnr had first born sons called Henry who subsequently died and their second born sons they also called Henry then survived.

I have a bit more digging to do on the Collingwoods - Henry snr was an upholsterer - the first three children were born in Tynemouth (1807 & 1808) & Newcastle (1810) and the fourth (1812) & fifth (1815) in Birmingham, but widow Ann above was back in Newcastle in 1841, so I wonder what took him there and when and where Henry snr died.

Many thanks!

Northumberland / Whitley House - Whitley Bay
« on: Sunday 21 December 08 11:40 GMT (UK)  »
Could anyone help me find out who the occupants of Whitley House were in the 1891 and 1901 censuses please.

In the phone directories a W Petersen, shipowner, is listed between 1896 and 1900-1901, but simply ancestry searches don't find him.

Many thanks

This is meant as a resource for primary school children, but it has some great photos, particularly of North Shields in 1933 before the slum clearances.
